Internet companies may censor content in Thailand without approval

Let's see now. What countries heavily censor the internet..... China, North Korea, Iran,

Ethiopia, Cuba and a smattering of middle east countries . Wow that is a pretty rough

group of countries. Is Thailand sure that is the path it wants to go down ?? Pretty

amusing to have the ISPs do the dirty work for the government. Guess that way they

can show clean hands when they face condemnation from western countries over

freedom of the press....

" Look, we have nothing to do with the content the ISPs allow !! ".

Thailand is clearly becoming a province of China, announcing deals every few days and having moved away from the West and Japan. In time Thailand may then be coerced by China into adopting its preferred technologies and policies. What China prohibits will also be prohibited in Thailand. If Gmail is blocked in China then it will be blocked in Thailand. Hard to imagine all this now, it's always easier to imagine the future as a close approximation of the present. But the world can make dramatic changes and Thailand appears in the process of change now.

They say they will build roads and trains and study ways to prevent accidents.

They say they will find cures and solutions and climb mountains and span valleys and discover the depths of all knowledge.

I laugh.

They say they will do this as well.

I laugh...

The ONLY way to keep total control of any population is to make sure they do not ever gain knowledge. Censoring is one such way of a fearful government or power to keep total control. FEAR usually works for a while but in the end it fails. It fails in economic and other ways. At present there seems to be one face stating FOREIGNERS want to come and INVEST in Thailand and on the ground, the actions are those of total determent - making it so HARD and difficult to actually do anything.

This will fail as people leave. maybe not a lot of posters here but business and bigger money interests who will just get fed up and go to where the levels are more even to play.

So are you saying that the Internet Service Providers are striving for total control of the population ?

And good luck to the businesses who pack up and leave Thailand in search of greener pastures. Ask people who have done business in places like China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia etc. what obstacles they came across. Ask them how level was the playing field. whistling.gif

It's DEAD here on Phuket and reports suggest the rest of the country has in the morgue. Upside is overbuilding's come to a halt and nature is been given a chance to replenish itself. So hoping 'people doing business' ergo, wrecking these countries' natural resources in search of the dwindling buck, are likewise sytmied. And they say the downturn in tourism's a bad thing. And pleeze, no posters with the 'but but how will they feed their families? faux handwringing). Same as they did before's my best guest.

its busy as in koh phangan

I bet people who are in charge wish Thailand would be like 50 years ago.

It is a known fact that most of the elite blue bloods always wanted the old ways , how they must curse those brave students of yester-year that tried to liberate Thailand , I say tried as it looks like if the CDC has it's way it will be like old times again.

Remember all these programmes are written by humans., So along comes another team of human beings who write and distribute their programme that neutralizes and, or bypasses the blocking programme

Computers we regard with awe, but human beings are able to think unlike computer who need human input to work,

As the song goes,

''We Shall Overcome.

Yes, it can all be circumvented, but that is not the point. These businesses should not take it upon themselves to sensor, but they are joining hands with the Junta to consolidate control.

An off topic post has been removed from view, along with a very appropriate reply. Apologies to the member with the reply. This thread is not about America.

A post in violation of forum rules was also removed.

4) You will not not discuss methods of bypassing blocking of websites, or circumventing any censorship of the internet or other communications by lawful authorities.

This may be a blessing for some of the not so wise posters out there.

Do you really think the Thai ( and other ) governments do not monitor sites like Face Book and Thaivisa???

Many expats seem to forget they are not at home and freedom of speech is not a right here.

So, for those not wise enough to censor themselves, it may be a good thing for them if the internet companies do it for them!

Totally different markets. KPG hardly a haven for holidaying families/sex tourists, is it? More like 'couldn't give a crap' students on their gap year.

Step back and take a look!

Thaivisa is the most heavily censored site I have ever visited.

and I visit it often.

Don't you?

Correct, it is self censoring, sort of like what the government wants the ISPs to do.

So TV has beaten the government to the punch !!
