falangUK
Wish you all a very happy new year! My estate agent just informed me that my car is not at the gated parking space where it used to be. A call to the crime bureau confirmed that it had been stolen and sold off has anyone been in this situation before? if so any suggestions ideas would be most welcome. Link to comment
krisb
So since it was sold does that mean the cops are getting it back? Link to comment
steve187
a stolen car always remains the property of the loser, unless insurance claim settled. do the police know the whereabouts of the vehicle 1 Link to comment
falangUK
I've been in Thailand since 2011 so it was not insured (taxed, MOT), was on SORN. Hopefully the police will recover it, they were very helpful. steve187The police were unable to tell me any details about the new registrant, I forgot to ask about the whereabouts of the car Link to comment
watcharacters
Many years ago I read about a police car being stolen from the 16th street police station in the Mission District in San Francisco. Thieves can be very brazen for sure! Link to comment
steve187
If the new owner bought it in good faith, its unfortunate for him, as it always remains the property of the original owner. once its reported stolen, the police should give you the details of the new keeper, or arrange recovery, your keys may still fit. its been some years since i was involved in stolen vehicles, but the rules should still be the same, procedure within the police may have changed. maybe the new owner has taxed and mot'd it for you, mot check here - https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status insurance check here - http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ registration details check here - https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla you may not have some details for some of the checks above. 1 Link to comment
