Hail storms expected in North this weekend

BANGKOK, 6 January 2015 (NNT)- The Ministry of Interior has instructed provincial governors in 13 provinces in the North to be ready for hail storms, predicted for the end of this week.


Following the latest weather forecast, Interior Minister General Anupong Paojinda said another cold front from China is expected to move toward the northern region .

Provinces in the North have also been warned to brace for the high pressure system combined with the western wind.

Provincial governors of Pitsnulok, Petchabun, Sukhothai, Tak, Uttaradit, Lampang, Lamphun, Mae Hongsorn, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Payao, Prae and Nan provinces have been ordered to be prepared for emergency situations.

They have been urged to follow the safety procedure set by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Northern residents have also been told to maintain the conditions of their homes and refrain from using a mobile phone outdoors. They may call the emergency Hotline 1784 if they need help.

Thai stock market 1st ASEAN in trading value

BANGKOK, Jan 6 -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) posted the highest trading value in ASEAN for the third year running, and market capitalization of its initial public offerings (IPO) exceeded Bt300 billion last year.

Thai interior minister warns of storms

BANGKOK, Jan 6 -- Thailand's Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda warns people in 13 northern provinces of possible thunderstorms and hailstorms from Thursday through Saturday as another high pressure area from China and westerly winds will converge in upper Thailand at that time.

Two suspected insurgents killed in clash with rangers in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT: -- Two suspected insurgents were killed and a ranger was injured in a clash in Narathiwat's Joh I Rong district Tuesday afternoon.


Police said five alleged insurgents in a pick-up truck refused to stop at a road checkpoint and sped away so six rangers on three motorcycles chased after them, resulting in a gunfight. Two suspects were later found killed in the truck while three others fled the scene.

Former Korean Air VP to be indicted over 'nut rage'

Chinese spacecraft to return to moon's orbit

Thai exports to bounce back at 2.5 per cent this year: Shippers Council

BANGKOK, Jan 6 -- The Thai National Shippers’ Council projects the value of Thai exports should increase by 2.5 per cent this year compared with its 0.2 per cent decline in 2014. The council is concerned about the European Union (EU) move to exclude Thailand from its Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

Being a doctor is still the top choice for Thai children

BANGKOK: == For a sixth year in a row, Thai children chose becoming a doctor as the top job, while becoming a soldier is the "coolest".


These choices were revealed in the 6th Adecco Thailand Children's Career Survey Tuesday.

The survey also showed that the main reason youngsters wanted to become doctors was because they want to help people, as well as look after their families and earn a good income. The other top career choices were soldier, policeman, teacher and engineer.

Thailand-China to sign MOU on sciences cooperations

Cabinet approves project of 7-km-long bike lane along Chao Phraya

BANGKOK: -- The Cabinet Tuesday approved a project to build a 7-kilometre-lonn bike lane along the Chao Phraya River, Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.


Sansern said the location of the bike lane would be kept confidential for fear of speculaiton on the land prices. Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has been assigned to head a committee in charge of the project, the spokesman added.
