Police to probe contracts for advertisement boards at police kiosks

BANGKOK, 7 January 2015 (NNT) – Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner Pongsapat Pongcharoen on Tuesday chaired a meeting of police officials and representatives from the Treasury Department over the issue of the allegedly unauthorized advertisement boards on top of police kiosks.

Phatthalung prepares for Children's Day 2015

PHATTHALUNG, 7 Jan 2015 (NNT) - The southern Province of Phatthalung is planning to hold Children's Day celebrations under the theme ‘Phatthalung children follow in the footsteps of the King’.


The event is organized under joint efforts by the provincial administration, the Tourism and Sports office, the Muang Phatthalung Municipality, as well as educational institutions and government and private sector units in the province.

The 9-day event will take place from January 10th to 18th in front of the provincial City Hall and the Jaturamuk Pavilion, where the important Buddha image of the province – Phra Phuttha-nirokhantarai, is located. Activities in the event will promote tourism scene in the province and at the same time encourage children’s creativities and self development based on HM the King’s Sufficiency Economy philosophy.

They include a campaign promoting tourism and sports, OTOP Goods Shows, demonstrations of local culinary, a bicycle rally, activities promoting the 12 national core values, and several stage performances.

The event also includes a Farmer Night on January 12th which will feature the lives of farmers in the province.

Finally, the provincial administration is also planning to give a tour to a local sufficiency economy village with free meals to interested tourists on January 12th, 14th and 16th.

Rajaprajanugroh Foundation donates blankets and uniforms to Phayao students

PHAYAO, 7 Jan 2015 (NNT) - The Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King yesterday delivered blankets and school uniforms to students of the Rajaprajanugroh 24 School in Jun District, Phayao Province.


The presenting ceremony was presided over by chairman of the provincial committee of the Rajaprajanugroh Foundation, Chuchart Kilapaeng. Taking part in the ceremony were also chief of Phayao’s Red Cross chapter Waraporn Kilapaeng, and other governmental unit chiefs.

Rajaprajanugroh 24 School has been established by the Rajaprajanugroh foundation and the Ministry of Education at the instruction of His Majesty the King. It is a coeducation school offering classes from grade 1 to 12 under the supervision of the Department of General Education, Ministry of Education.

The school offers satellite online teaching sessions, along with optional occupational courses in agriculture, industry, and home economics. It currently has about 900 students and 90-strong staff including teachers, educational personnel and other employees.

Internet slows after undersea cable cut

Sharp drop in temperatures this weekend in North and Northeast

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's northern and northeastern regions could expect unusual drop in temperatures of between 6-8 degrees Celsius in coming weekend as strong cold snap from China is moving in.

In today’s issuance of weather forecast by Thailand Meteorological Department, it says another strong wave of cold spell is approaching and will blanket the upper part of the country from January 8-10.

Its arrival will coincide with the westerly wind flowing past the northern region.

The combination of cold spell and the winds will result in turbulent weather in the upper region of the country which could see torrential rains and strong winds during the period.

It said after the rains, temperatures could drop sharply of 6-8 degrees, particularly in the North and the Northeast.

Hailstorms are aso expected in some areas.

Meanwhile the southern region will expect increased rains and high waves in the Gulf of Thailand from Nakhon Si Thammarat down to the southernmost provinces.

North Korean ambassador visits Yongyuth

BANGKOK: -- North Korean Ambassador to Thailand Mun Song Mo Wednesday paid a courtesy call to Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yutthawong at the Government House.


Yongyuth told reporters that he informed the ambassador that the Thai government is willing to lend support to the reunification of the North and South Koreas.
