Renewed my passport on a recent visit outside of Thailand. Went to Khon Kaen immigration office yesterday morning to transfer my extension of stay stamp and multiply re entry visa. Very good service, in and out within 20 minutes and no letter requested from British Consulate confirming passport issue.

Did you need the old passporr or just a copy?

You must have the old passport and copies of the relevant pages.

Only in the case of a lost or stolen passport would you not need the old one but you would need a police report to prove that.

Yes they required the old passport and the form transfer stamp to new passport. I also went prepared with copies of the relevent pages from my old passport (signed by me).

Is this a free service by immigration? or is there a fee?

Also any experience of doing this at Chiang Mai immigration? I am just trying to see whether I can go in the afternoon, rather than joining the queue at 4:30 am :(

BTW. got all the documents sorted :)

It will be free at CM immigration. There is no official fee but there have been reports of some offices asking for an unofficial fee.

It should not take long but I cannot confirm you can do in the afternoon at CM immigration.

That's interesting and that a question i was about to ask. I have a 1 year non o multiple entry which is valid until Nov 2015 but because i travelling a lot, my passport has just few pages left. I will then get a new passport from Embassy in Bangkok. Last week, while i passed immigration in Don Muang, I asked the immigration officer how it will work for me with my current visa but with a new passport. He told me just present the 2 passports at immigration until the end of validity of your current visa o. You don't need to transfer your visa on the new passpprt. Is that correct?

But the police report is done in 10 min.

Go into the station, say passport lost, tell your name, pay 20 Baht-->finish
