BANGKOK: -- ON THE OCCASION of National Children's Day this year, youngsters will get a rare opportunity to sit in Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha's official chair - and, just in case they can't find the PM nearby, they can pose for a photo alongside the life-sized cardboard cut-out of Prayut in his military uniform.

Prayut's chair is in fact unique, a source said yesterday.

"It's designed by the Fine Arts Department. No other prime minister has ordered such a chair before," the source said, adding that Prayut's predecessors had simply used a luxury chair generally available in the market.

"None has been specially designed like this one. None of his predecessors has ever sat on this chair, therefore," said the source.

Thailand celebrates National Children's Day on the second Saturday of January, which this year falls on January 10.

Celebrating the special occasion, Government House will be open to children this Saturday, and they are welcome to check out Prayut's office.

"They can sit on the table, the chair, the bed, whatever," Prayut said when asked about opening up his office to the children.

After inaugurating the celebration, the premier will also lead 20 outstanding children on a tour around Government House.

Prayut yesterday said celebrations for National Children's Day would be staged at various locations around the Kingdom.

"Go celebrate at a place near your home," he said.

Celebrations, for example, have been planned by the three armed forces and at Parliament House, too, he added.

On the part of the Royal Thai Army, the celebration will be held at the King's Guard, 2nd Cavalry Division, where a new generation of weaponry such as tanks, guns and helicopters, plus military gear used in relief and rescue operations, will be on display.

The Royal Thai Air Force will hold exhibitions at its bases and aviation schools across the country, where military aircraft will be exhibited.

The Royal Thai Navy will give children the opportunity to go on board battleships at naval bases nationwide.

It will also hold an exhibition at the Thai Armed Forces Headquarters on Chaeng Watthana Road, where battleship armaments as well as naval aircraft will be displayed.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, meanwhile, plans to host activities to mark National Children's Day from tomorrow through to January 18.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Prayut has received more than 1,000 New Year cards from children.

In his official statement marking National Children's Day, Prayut said he wished to send love and best wishes to all Thai children.

"May you enjoy happiness, prosperity, great health, and physical and mental strength so as to be the driving force for the country's sustainable development," he said.

Someone's obviously not intending to go anywhere anytime soon then, or were his piles so bad he had to order such a "special" chair?

Tomorrow's news: Prayut's maids spend the day removing crayon marks from his seat.

A few choice remarks in indelible marker would be fun but would probably cost the taxpayer a new unique chair.

Articles and headlines such as this are entertaining for sure.

When reading them, I make sure my coffee cup is on the table, lest I spill it from laughing so hard.

…youngsters will get a rare opportunity to sit in Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha's official chair

Let's hope they were given a chance to keep it.

The article sure does gush about him and his specially designed chair. A normal luxury chair used by previous PMs, wasn't good enough. sick.gif

God this guy is so full of himself. I bet he carries an autographed photo of himself and kisses it at least 3 times per day. Keep up the self admiration Mr Magoo.

A life size cutout of him in full uniform, even now he's a civilian.

A unique, special designed chair ?

The cult grows.

The value of the chair can be depreciated slowly over the many, many years this PM plans on staying PM.

They are in an emergency meeting with the RTP apologists discussing a merger of the two groups.

The only way they can keep their combined membership above 5.........................coffee1.gif

Judging from other threads in this forum, there are plenty of "children" who'd rather get a feel of former PM Yingluck's seat.

Seriously can you blame us, considering the alternative......................whistling.gif

Children to get a feel of PM Prayut's seat

TV is obviously desperate for clicks. Sinking lower by the day.

This unfortunate headline has nothing to do with TV. It was on the front page of the Nation today.

"According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Prayut has received more than 1,000 New Year cards from children." Wow, a whole thousand cards! In a country with a population just over 67 million, that is a truly impressive number. Maybe this guy really is as popular as he imagines biggrin.png
