shl500
Could anyone who has been recently to Savanakhet recommend a place to stay for a couple of nights close to any bars or a bit of nightlife? ubonjoe
There is no reason to spend 2 nights or even one night now. They are doing visas on the same day you apply. Apply by 11 am and get your passport back at 3:30 pm.

I thought it was the "sign in before 12 noon and collect after 2pm the next day" The only reason why I was thinking of 2 nights because I could not get there before 3pm so hence 2 nights required. All I need is an extra 30 days so will this be OK get on the same day you think? Thanks in advance.

You can apply for it until 11.30, sometimes until noon and pick your visa up in the afternoon. Have you already applied for a 30 day visa at your local immigration?

I enter Thailand on a Non"O" visa 90 days single entry and I was advised previously on this site that they only do the 30 day extension on a tourist visa at the local immigration and I would after leave the country to obtain an additional visa.? Hence a trip to Savanakhet.

If your from a G-7 country you get a 30 day visa exempt at land crossings exit and return no need to go to Thai Consulate.

Hence a trip to Savanakhet. Some years ago the Immigration Office in Nong Khai extended my Non Immigrant Visa with both 74 and 78 days. And twice they gave an extension of 1 week. They can extend a Non Immigrant Visa up to 90 days. (if they havn't changed the law the last years). But it seems like they don't have this practice anymore. At the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet they do not extend a Non Immigrant Visa. You have to apply for a new Non Immigrant Visa or a Tourist Visa. Savannakhet is not more than a large dusty village. Nightlife in western sense there is none. But there is a nice hotel with a casino. http://www.thaisavannakhet.com/savannakhet/th/index.php Edited January 11, 2015 by Norlund

DEFINITION of 'Group Of Seven - G-7' A forum of the world's seven most industrialized economies. The G-7 was formed in 1975 and initially comprised six nations - France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the U.S. and U.K. - with Canada invited to join the group in 1976. When you get your passport back get yourself back to Mukdahan bus station and book the next bus to khonkaen they run often so you will be back and to too khonkaen in a day.
