2long
My top 3 is as follows. I'd be interested in yours. #3 Their sharing (even the poorest are happy to offer food and their best bed) #2 Their smiles #1 Their tolerance (putting up with us lot, being able to sit on hard floors for hours, obeying parents'/polec's/bosses' stupid and meaningless rules)
Donz
The way they are so laid back, thw females are great, ive only been with one Thai woman and if she is any repesentation of the Thai girls are the best. Although if something ever happend down the line and we break up for some reason then i will probaly jump on the anti Thai bandwagon.

Sing_Sling
The grandmother of my Thai business partner giving me a big hug whenever she sees me. . . I'm 6'2 and she possibly just crackes the 4.10 mark. Yup, that and the smiles you receive when you say hello. (Beats the hel_l out of Singaporeans or Hongkies, sorry meemiathai, who pray that you don't speak to them and have a black face all day)

Thaiquila
I love their xenophobia, because without it Thailand wouldn't be so radically different from the west and there would be little point in visiting/living there. tourleadersi
I don't want to generalise, so please read this as 'most' or 'the thais that I know' or 'some' I really like the way that they don't seem overly concerned by things that don't immediately affect them. They seem a lot more concerned about the price of sugar, the latest soap opera, the new salon down the road, who is going out with who than the ongoing 'War on Terror', the Lebanon/Israel situation or even the looming bird flu pandemic. I like that. I was diagnosed with a stress related illness in Bangkok by a Gastro Enterologist who admitted that the last time he had seen someone with my condition was 19 years ago when he qualified in the US! My Gastro Doc in the Uk who only deals with cases like mine has a 6 week waiting list. I like the fact that I have yet to feel threatened by a thai. Just 4 nights ago 2 English muppets had a go at myself and a friend in a takeaway restaurant. We just ignored them and they left. It was harder to ignore them 5 minutes later when they crossed over onto the wrong side of the road in an SUV and tried to run us over! Luckily they weren't behind us or we would have both been brown bread. Thailand is not perfect, but I can find more faults elsewhere in the world. Good on you Thailand! soic
I would have to agree with most here. Their Smiles, Friendliness, Patience, the way that they welcome us all and tolerate our differences. The cooking, the way that they'll pull out all the stops and cook the last bit of rice if they think you could possibly be hungry. Especially the knack that most of them have in making us feel like the most important people in the world, when in fact we're no better than anyone else. petecooper
Their King and the amazing respect they have for him. Sure he's earned that respect but if other countries had leaders of this calibre, and were given this kind of loyalty, like this then imagine how different they'd be. turnpike
I like how they'll stop whatever they're doing and stand at attention for the national anthem, and as mentioned before it's pretty cool how much they adore their King. Pretty rare to see that kind of devotion anywhere. I like how the gals can so lithely step out of their sandals when entering a house. I like how they ride side-saddle so effortlessly on the back of a motorcycle. Looks very graceful as well. I like the kids, most so well behaved and obedient, not little hel_l-raisers like I'd see so often back home.

Thaiboxer
I don't agree with the one about the kids as I used to be a kids' teacher here and many Thai kids are spoiled little brats who need a good beating! There are many things I like about the Thais, many of these things have already been mentioned. I'll add another: I like how the Thais often approach customer service; in the West, "The customer is always right" is the oldest of service industry sayings and MANY Westerners will take advantage of this philosophy on customer service by complaining and doing whatever they can to get something for free. The Thais on the other hand will help you out if you have a legitimate gripe, but if you're just being a pain and trying to take advantage of them, they'll just smile and say, "Sorry, can't help you." For example, the complaining farang guest who tries to get a free stay at some resort may get one night free if they complain enough, but after that the Thais will not bend over backwards anymore to satisfy the unreasonable customer. I once worked at a hotel in the States and I can't even remember how many guest got free stuff out of us.

Mighty Mouse
Not much evidence of obesity amongst Thais. They eat rice, not McDonalds. Therefore they have no body odour. Because the women can fit into a size 6 - 8 dress, they have a lot to smile about. That fantastic smile says it all. They are a tight knit family unit, each willingly supporting each other. There is no, or very little, selfishness amongst them. Thais make Thailand the great country that it is.

Charma
Many of the above + sense of humour. I have never met a Thai that did not enjoy a good laugh, esp the wife. I suppose she needs it being married to me!

Tippaporn
Yes, all of the above. And I'm very grateful. I love getting together with my Thai family and friends. Everyone is always joking and laughing, never serious. Especially my wife and her best gf. I'm a clown and tease by nature so the three of us together make for a rip roaring time. The gf had a visitor from France once and the wifey and I served as her 'escorts' for the day. We picked him up and started off with lunch at a restaurant. From the expression on his face he was truly bewildered and a bit on edge by our incessant laughter. 55555555555555555555555555555555555555555!! Not another Naka. Appreciation is the key to happiness. Always a great OP. Edited August 16, 2006 by Tippaporn
