More than one million speed pills confiscated

CHIANG RAI, 11 มกราคม 2014 (NNT) -- More than one million tablets of methamphetamine have been confiscated during an anti-drugs operation in the norther province of Chiang Rai.

The Commander of the National Police Bureau, Police General Somyote Poompanmuang said during a press conference on Sunday that seven Thai men are alleged to be members of a major drug trafficking ring in Chiang Rai's Wiang Kaen district. One million one hundred and fifty thousand speed pills, and three cars were confiscated during the operation.

Police were acting on a tip from informants that the ring would smuggle the drugs in three cars from Chiang Rai to Nakhon Ratchasima. The cars were stopped at a road block in Dan Khun Thod district for a thorough search. The seven men were charged with possession of first rate narcotics intended for sale.

According to Pol. Gen. Somyote, the drugs were manufactured elsewhere and Thailand was being used by trafficking rings to ship them to their customers. Currently, Thailand and neighboring countries are closely cooperating in border areas to suppress the activities of these rings.

For about 70 years Chiang Rai has been noted as the transit center for drugs with assistance from those he allow it to happen. Chiang Rai needs a visit from Prayuth to clean out the rats nest that are here. Road work never gets done and city water is available for very few. No sign of any law enforcement and traffic lights don't stay on very long. WE NEED A NEW ADMINISTRATION FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IN CHIANG RAI. WHY DON'T YOU COME AND DO IT? We are way over due doing what they did in Chiang Mai.

I find that very hard to believe for that is PT heartland where everything was going to be looked after so well, has Yingluck not just told the NLA how the poor have been helped so much by the rice pledging scheme.

No Donald you must be mistaken, but then again if it is true could it be that you are a little late in asking why these things have not been done ? It would have paid to ask the previous administration who the people of that area voted into power.

However no harm in bringing it to the attention of the present administration for there is now a better chance of getting something done.

I find it hard to believe your sanctomonious drivel.

Donald's post referred to the last 70 years. Just how old do you think Yingluck is?

And referring to the junta as the 'present administration' is delusional and hilarious. cheesy.gif

...my-my.....who is selling all these pills....and....who is buying them.....???

The problems in Chiang Rai have been ongoing for many years. PT never did anything for Chiang Rai. PT spent their money in Chiang Mai and made it the second largest city in Thailand in both population and traffic jams. Chiang Rai still has a PT appointed governor and police staff. Did you ever think why the military does not want to change this like they did in Chiang Mai?

A friend of mine told me that many of the speed pills are going to ISIS and are giving them the drive to move on toward the west.

I have yet to find any site that lists Chiang Mai as the second most populated city in Thailand. It is more often listed around 5th or 6th.

I'd be curious to know the source for the claim it is number two.

By the quantities found, an awful lot of Thais!
