chiangrai Posted January 12, 2015 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Hi, I just tried to set a password that has to be typed in before any body uses my wifi. I opened "network and sharing center" "connections" "wireless properties" "security" Then there was a place saying "no authentication required" and I changed it to WPA2 Personal and added a password and pressed O.K. I was disconnected from the wifi bay was able to reconnect without a password. Does anyone know whwt I'm doing wrong. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The address for the router is usually something like: http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 The user name can vary depending on router / manufacturer so you may have to google to find this. "TPLINK D48E5E": I can't find this type with Google. Otherwise I could tell you, what the default username/password are. It may possibly be an OEM router (that is specifically produced for TOT) - check you've got the type number correct - look on the router AND the box if there is one. Any instruction leaflet supplied? Try asking TP Link themselves, here...... http://www.tp-link.com/en/support/contact/ What JamieP said about those 2 addresses is generic for most routers from most manufacturers although I've not personally had a TP Link. I'd expect one of them to work.... However I did find this http://www.tp-link.com/iq/article/?faqid=144 on the TP Link support site - make sure your browser allows pop-ups as well! It may be your lack of experience or simply what I said about it being an OEM router above BT do something similar in UK. If you do buy a new router, it may be better to buy one from an independent source but.... MAKE SURE that TOT can supply you with the login credentials if you go this route (pun intended). without those, you'll be no further forward! Good luck...... Thanks again for the help. You really should write the process down. Being able to change your own home WiFi Password should be something everyone should know how to do when needed. It might be OK if you're the only one using your WiFi, but if your neighbor, or the creep a few houses down, figures the password out then can becomes an issue. And it's not that difficult to enter the Web Setup of the router and change it. Just need to remember to DELETE the old entry on your PC if it won't let you update to the new password.
