The agreement was made when Thai Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan met Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi.

Prawit also asked the premier to support Thai investors in Vietnam and jointly develop agricultural products for mutual export benefits.

Prawit also discussed security cooperation of Vietnam’s Defence Minister Gen Phung Quang Thanh. Vietnam agreed to Thai proposal to form a joint working group on joint sea patrols to ensure security and safety to ensure security and safety for fisheries by personnel from both countries.

Gen Thanh thanked Thailand for taking good care of Vietnamese migrants and workers, Col Kongcheep said.

"Vietnam will support Thailand as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council..."

That's about as useless as me supporting a Thai politician who is running for office. It would be more meaningful if a member nation of the Security Council voiced support of Thailand's membership. So far, haven't heard of any. Thailand, the Hub of Wishful Pipe Dreams.drunk.gif.pagespeed.ce.hfErN2aQEEfKmimwR

Never seen such affront since big Daddy Amin wanted to be the UN secretary, get your place in order first , the UN has Thailand rated zero plus and you want to be on the security council, a country that pulls a coup once every 7 years, has shoddy human rights record and 700 legal outlets for the ivory trade , a country that has no Democracy and wants to be wanted in the International community needs to lift it's game.coffee1.gif

Vietnam's alleged support is irrelevant.

There is one seat open in the Security Council for the Asia-Pacific Group. There are two applicants Republic of Kazakhstan and Thailand. Oil rich Kazakhstan has a president as Head of State who is publically elected with an appointed prime minister as Head of Government. Thailand applied for the seat in August 2013 during the Yingluck administration.

The UNSC elections will be held in October 2016 by secret ballot. It would be imperative for Thailand to have in place before then a constitution and publically elected government if Thailand is to convince the General Assembly majority to vote for it. Otherwise, I doubt that with a military Junta-controlled government which overthrew Yingluck’s government and martial law will help Thailand’s overall chance at the seat.

With Thailand's recent trade agreements with Russia to replace stoppage of EU food exports to Russia because of the Ukrainian crisis, EU countries may not take kindly to Thailand being on the Security Council. On the other hand, Russia announced it will no longer rely on Kazakhstan's space launch facilities for Russian space craft but build its own launch sites for the sake of national security. If there is a groundswell of caution in the General Assembly over Russian influence in the Security Council, it might work in Kazakhstan's favor.

Yingluck dissolved parliament, after repeatedly saying she would never do so. She was then removed from office for an illegal act.

The military removed a caretaker government of which Yingluck was no longer PM or DM. Although her criminal fugitive brother still controlled it of course.

whistling.gif Membership on the U.N. Security Council is a political thing.

What it really means to be a member or an associate member is "I'll scratch your A - -, if you scratch my

A - -".

That's what Vietnam and Thailand are doing, scratching each others A - - here.

My guess: Vietnam is playing nice to Thailand, because they want support from other Asean members against China for their islands territory dispute.
