Human rights group thanks CDC for adding “sexual identity” to new charter

BANGKOK, 19 January 2015 (NNT) - The Foundation of Thai Transgender Alliance for Human Rights has expressed its appreciation to the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) for including the term “sexual identity” in the permanent charter.

First vice president of the National Reform Council (NRC) and CDC chairman Bawornsak Uwanno received a letter of appreciation from Mr. Ronnapoom Samakkeekarom, chairman of the Foundation of Thai Transgender Alliance for Human Rights. On behalf of all sexual preferences, Mr. Ronnapoom said he was grateful for the CDC’s attempt and commitment in protecting the rights of all Thai citizens.

The CDC last week decided to add the term “sexual identity” to the list of rights protected under the new constitution. It believes the move will open doors to all forms of sexual expression. The new term also seeks to expand gender protection beyond a person’s biological sex upon birth.

The group also asked the charter rewrite committee to add the term “sexual orientation” to the constitution to further protect the rights of all sexual expressions.

In reply, Mr. Bawornsak said the NRC and the CDC attach great importance to gender equality as such a matter will bring Thailand to be on par with other civilized countries. When promulgated, the new constitution will protect the rights of all individuals, the CDC chairman said.

Whilst I also applaud the sentiments in this case, I find this:

And the appraisals and satisfaction keeps coming in from all sides of the Thai society.

Wise decisions General that bring the smile back to all Thai faces irrespective of gender or sexual orientation.thumbsup.gif

...to be distinctly creepy.
