M...You gonna get LR or PS on it or are they already included in

your "package"? On occasion I have been giving serious thought

to a maxed out Mac Pro...on occasion that is.

BTW...this is the monitor that has us Eizo owners in a tad bit of

concern.

I'm going to add my Adobe licence, so LR and CC going straight on it. But I've really got it for 3D modelling work, is the number one reason.

It was £3150 with upgrades . . .

4.0GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 4.4GHz
32GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x8GB
3TB Fusion Drive
AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB GDDR5
Apple USB SuperDrive
Apple Magic Mouse + Magic Trackpad

Never had an Apple computer before, but I need something that can really shovel it on the graphics these days.

Should be here next week, got the firm to buy it.

I'm very happy with my Origin Genisis if that says anything!

Mind you, the Mac Pro makes the hairs on the back of me

neck stand up; especially the 64Gb RAM jobber. I guess what

makes it interest me so darn much is that it reminds me of a

huge beer can! Performance wise me Origin & the MBP are

literally the same...so it's the design of the MBP that grabs

me peepers...I like it a lot just for that reason.

Mac Pro is like £6k+ and pretty pointless unless you're into big time 4K video production.

I need to upgrade the laptop post April 6th. Hopefully MacBook Pro next gen should be out. Really want to go 13" and light as. So big all in one desktop and highly mobile laptop.

At the moment I use a huge Samsung desktop replacement gaming machine. But without any games. Thought it was a good idea at the time, had specs as good as mobile workstations but at half the cost. It weighs around 5 kilos with the battery and charger thing and is horribly unwieldy. Never again. Always travel light and that goes for cameras and lenses too.

Why suffer?

. Reliable, wonderful thing, but showing the age now.

Sounds like you are describing yourself. ???

You mean the slow, overweight and barely functioning part, surely?

The prize piece of computing device in Big M's office is almost due for an upgrade.

Lol

Go on Rabbit, you know you want one.

I do, but I have a 2010 Mac Pro with six drives, upgraded graphics and attached 27"monitor which would have to be lost. stolen or set on fire before I could indulge. I am working on those options.

Donate that lot to a poor kid who can't afford it you rich <deleted>.

There. Done.

I have used emotional blackmail.

Now get down the Apple store.

It's really amazing how "small" the specs you actually need in an iMac (& running OSX) to do 3D work. I am using iMacs running Yosemite from this era: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/specs/imac-core-i5-2.9-27-inch-aluminum-late-2012-specs.html and they run Cinema 4D, VUE Xstream, and anything else that I need just fine. The only upgrade was to max out the ram @ 32 GB. That said, the 1TB hard drive that shipped with that model rots, and changing it with a reasonably priced SSD voids the Applecare warranty, so I am waiting a few more months... I have no experience with the fusion drive, but it's gotta be better. Still, not noticeable during render, but boot up time seems to take forever compared to a simple MBA with SSD. In fact, running C4D on that little MBA (13 in, mid 2013) actually works as well, albeit not as pretty on the dinkey screen, but I've had to do an edit on the road and it works. SO, long and short, that iMac 5K should be a screamer, so best of luck!
