When I say my friends consciously decided to 'go Thai' I don't mean they hunted Thai men down looking for a husband - all I mean is that they consciously made the decision to open themselves up to the possibility. I must admit when I first came here I thought I would never go there. I just didn't think I'd have anything in common with a Thai man and I'd convinced myself that they were all snapable skinny, 3 feet tall and wore bad clothes. I then saw this Thai man who I thought was unbelievably gorgeous and he made me feel like a giggling teenager every time I looked at him, only problem was he couldn't speak a word of English and my Thai was terrible - you can only gaze at someone for so long right - but he made me realise there must be others out there who were just as lovely as he was - and there were, I just hadn't noticed them before.

Int he beginning I had a couple of flings with farang guys passing through but after a while it got too be too much hard work.

I'd meet a guy, have fun, start to get close & then off he went on the rest of his round the world trip leaving me upset & pissed off.

I then met a thai man who was a friend of a friend & we hit it off. When I went back to the UK we broke up but when I came back 3 montsh later we got together again, it didn't work out but we are still mates now, as I am with all my thai ex's.

I found that the longer I lived in Thailand, most of my friends were thai, so the pool of men was 99% thai & any farang men I knew were long term tourists or residents with thai gf's.

An occasional farang man would cross my path & if single we would have a fling but the long termers were all asian until I met hubby.

Mabe a shallow point here, but nevertheless a true one (in the effect it has on me personally).

I posted in a thread recently that when I see an atractive Thai woman with a good looking farang guy, they make a very 'sexy' looking couple. The same is true of an attractive farang woman and a good looking Thai guy.

On a less frivolous note, whether they are attractive or not, I smile when I see a mixed couple. Maybe something to do with the insults I received as a teenager whilst in two relationships with black English girls.

Hopefully we've come a long way since the early eighties.

I have found that in the same way Thai men often find foreign men's taste in Thai women strange, so do Thai women find foreign women's taste in Thai men different to their own. Yes, a generalisation - but I've heard it said often enough to make it worth commenting on. My husband doesn't fit either of those categories so I'm just repeating observations I've heard from other people.

i find this funny. there is a gorgeous thai guy where i lived called dum. he is tall, well built, has thick, long, straight black hair, dresses nice and smells good. most foreign girls reel when they see him. my friends and i made up a little game where we get points when we "accidentally" Touch Dum. but thai women don't like him because he is- you got it, dum! (dum means black or dark skinned). more for us honey. i did meet one foreign woman who didn't like him and i was shocked. i think it's nature's way of balancing things out for everyone.

We were discussing our neice yesterday who I consider to be a very beautiful young women. She is already tall, dark skinned, with high cheekbones & an angelina jolie mouth. A very dangerous combination I thought, so was saying that we (the family) had to keep an extra eye on her, as at 13y/o she is already a great beauty. Hubby told me we didnt have to worry too much, she had already told his mum that her freinds had lots of boys interested but she didn't as she was too dark.

I was amazed, if this girl where living in the UK she could be a teen model & would have boys swarming all over her by now but in Thailand she was considered unnatractive.
