While everybody looks the other way when drivers install undersize wheels to fool the meters? Iv seen some with undersized wheels and could not understand the logic. The cabs clocking device should have a 8 pin eeprom on the pc board and the program should be in binary format. So it's easy as hell for anyone with a electronic hardware and simple automotive software development background to desolder the eeprom, edit the count off values from 35 to 75 or what ever with a simple seriel programmer and solder the eeprom back on the board. And what about all the previous fares he took from the airport? Why is he not heavily fined based on the fact he has stolen a lot of money up to the time he was finally caught? From the airport.....this is the first impression many people will have of Thailand.....that that the taxi driver gives them on the ride to their hotel....... Was funny how after he was told he was going to show the video to the police by the Japanes man he told him he would give him a discount....Offered him 20 baht off, and when the chap pointed out that he was being ripped off 40 baht the Taxi Driver/Ex cop laughed at him, hopefully social media can keep these rats honest, film them and share them people... He's a post I just put on another thread but it's quite relevant here as well... When they first declared all Taxi's would have to run meters, there were huge rumblings down here in Samui, First of all the taxis had to put in meters as before it was a minimum of 250 to go a few hundred metres and 3 kilometres would be about 500 baht.. I spoke to a few of the drivers and they weren't happy, they had a meeting and all got large stickers on the side that there was a 100 fee to start the ride and then would be metered from there..Guess what, it never happened, they still refuse to turn on the meters and it costs 250 baht mininum to go anywhere on an island that has little traffic compared to the mainland.Fter 11pm or so you can Double that price, If you want to travel 30 kilometrtes after going to a club till 3am you are looking at about 1200 baht, if you can speak Thai and know the routine, otherwise add another 3-400 baht...But they get away with it Because this little island is controlled by Mafia who are also the Taxi drivers boss'..It's a well known fact, has been that way for over 20 years and they all carry weapons in their car and are not scared to show them off.... If coming From the airport to 3 kilometres away any time of day is 400 baht...If you speak Thai..500 otherwise!!!! Please can someone sort this out, no other hard working Thai's make 4-5000 baht a day.... The local mafia taxi and Police make me want to puke....Sort it out Junta.. Yeah, I especially like how at :46 and :57 he perfectly uses that rising tone "uuuhhhh" sound Thai's do to politely convey "I don't believe a #$%&ing word you are saying." The more Thai I learned the more I realized how important it was for a society designed around non-confrontation and lack of accountability to have a language which relies on vagueness, that way any problems can always be chalked up to a "misunderstanding" and thus all parties avoid losing face, No one is ever called to the carpet, You see it in the media all the time. Being able to use the kind of nuance of language the Japanese guy did is very important and effective when speaking to Thais in a conflict. First, get the government out of the equation and let true taxi companies happen. Supply and demand will naturally regulate it all. AOT great transportation system although a little spendy by Thai standards. Unless monopolies are set up and competition is prevented or eliminated as is the situation in Phuket where public transport prices in most areas are 2-3 even 10 times what they are in other parts of Thailand. The tuk tuks and taxi's are specifically priced for foreigners, and motosai taxi's aren't even allowed in some places.In Phuket they are begging for more government intervention.
