webfact Posted January 30, 2015 Share Posted January 30, 2015 Provincial TAT offices planning packages for long May holidayBANGKOK, 30 January 2015 (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand has directed its provincial offices to cooperate with travel agencies to come up with special packages to encourage Thais to travel during the long holiday in early May.Earlier, the cabinet approved May 4th as an official holiday, creating a five-day holiday from May 1st to 5th, as a boost for local tourism in an effort to support the growing economy.TAT deputy governor Anuparb Theerarat said the target of travel packages should be youngsters, and state enterprise and private sector employees who will enjoy the new long holiday.As the tourism industry contributes between 9 and 10 % to the country's GDP, TAT is busying laying new strategies to attract more tourists and boost spending to strengthen the economy. The deputy governor said TAT was pursuing a strategy to promote tourism in 2016 which will be an extension of projects that are started this year such as the dream destinations in 12 secondary cities and flower festivals which can be held all year round through out the country.-- NNT 2015-01-30 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

NongKhaiKid Posted January 30, 2015 Share Posted January 30, 2015 This is 3 weeks after Songkran where many, many will be spending their money to travel home and take gifts, then travel back to wherever they work and take local food items etc back with them. Just where does the money come from for all this fanciful holiday spending in May come from ? I would ask if TAT ever really thinks but the answer is pretty obvious.
