I'm looking for a tree to grow on maybe 5 rai of mountain that can be a good investment, and can grow in a jungly enviroment.

I've also been fasinated by the properties of neem and think it would be a great alternitive to some of the others like rubber and palm etc.

I've been told the wood is very valueble as well as its leaves, berries and oil. I found out on the web a few facts but there are still a few holes.

how fast do they grow being in compatition with other larger trees, how many years till they could be cut.

what kind of revenues can be got / number of trees? selling leaves and berries ?, how much can you sell a 10 year old tree for? these kind of questions.

and importantly does any one know where to get a 1000 or so saplings?

I'll follow up on that piece of advice, thanx.

yer I love the idea of Neem but need still to work out how good an idea economicably it is. not much in the way of other plantations to cost from.

as I know it grows by itself easily enough. may be you just try to palnt its seed ?

there is a book in Engl available too : FIELD GUIDE TO FOREST TREES OF NORTHERN THAILAND

in Bangkok I haven't seen neem much though as in North. anybody?

about revenues - I think in Thailand its quilities are not that well known yet. I remember explaining to my wife's relatives some of its qualities - like taking lowering blod sugar lavel and blood purification, benefits for liver etc. even a a remedy for malaria. they didn't know all that - although plenty of neem trees grow in their neighbourhood and they pass they by daily whole their lives.

so, I think it might not get that great consumers response. you'll have to do a lot of promotion for whatever products you'll be able to make of it - if you palling to start your own production. coz so far I hardly seen any products made of neem, as say in India.

but if you can do it - I'm sure you can do well.

selling it for wood - I'm not sure is such a good idea. there probably are many other kinds of trees better for that.
