Need to get a box weighing about 20 something kg from Bangkok to Australia.

I've looked at DHL, they are around 6500baht. I assume they would be considered as reliable?

Anyone know anyone cheaper they can recommend please?

Or who not to use?

if you have to go for visa soon penang post is somewhat cheaper while singapore post would be the most reliable. go by train and take it with you use a trolley.

No just want a good cheap reliable postal service from Bangkok to Australia.

Thanks anyway.

I sent a box weighing 20 kilos to my daughter in Oz late last year. The quickest and a very reliable method was via Thai Post. Go to your Post Office and purchase a number 6 box (30/40 baht if I remember right). Also ask for the customs forms.

After you have packed your box (max 20 kg) take to the Post Office and tell them you want to send it SAL (send it no other way, only SAL. If you tell them airmail it costs a fortune). My box took about 3 weeks to arrive and went via airmail. Odd I know but this is how SAL works. Cost was about 7500 baht. Actual cost depends on weight.

There is an English page on the Thai Post website where you can calculate cost to any destination and weight of the box. It should be easy to find.

Yes I made a mistake as I was operating from my memory and not near my computer which had the relevant information.

The That Post Site is http://www.thailandpost.co.th/rate.php. Click the english flag on the RHS. Enter country and weight (max 20 kg).

The cost for a 20kg #6 box sent Int’l Parcel-SAL is 3310 baht to anywhere in Australia. The service is quite fast. Post at a Thai Post Office and it will be delivered to the nominated address in Australia.

My sincere apologies for the misdirection.

3300 baht BKK to Oz for a 20kg consignment sounds pretty damned good to me - I'm going to look into this further. Want to sell a couple of audio components but the shipping weight and overall size of the boxes deterred me from offering them to Aussies (audio is wildly overpriced in Oz, even compared to what you'll pay here for brands like Marantz). Thanks for the heads up.

Agreed.

If you can find any cheaper and still reliable as that, please let me know and I'll return the favour.

I just wanted to clarify what SAL is. From wikipedia:

:SAL, or Surface Air Lifted, is a postal service used to send international mail items. Thirty-nine postal authorities provide this service.[1] It is a cost effective international mail. At first SAL mail is processed and transported by surface in the origin country. Then it is transported by air to the destination country and finally processed and delivered as standard-type mail by the destination postal administration.[2][3] The service is faster than surface mail while the cost is lower than air mail.[2] SAL is more economical for sending heavy items; with light items, it sometimes costs more than air mail.[4]"

I hope this clears any confusion as my original post was erroneous
