MA in Education?

Featured Replies

I am thinking of studying an MA in Education. I currently teach at a govt uni where I'm obviously able to get a job based on my Bachelor degree (nothing to do with teaching) and tesol certificate. However, in the coming years I might want to work at an International school and earn more money.

Can you recommend an institution where I can study a Masters- where I will not have to fly abroad for exams.

The only option I could find is at the University of London which offers an MA in Education by distance education and its possible to do exams in Bangkok at the British council.

The cost is 11,000 quid but it is a prestigious uni...

Thanks for your opinions on this

Go home for a year and do a PGCE.

You'll feel better for it.

11000 pound !!!

My ex sister -in-Law "paid 50000 Thai baht for hers and apparently it is the going rate in Thailand's education circus. Of course if you are looking to teach elsewhere then you need an accredited MA but if your intent is to teach in Thailand then stick to accepted Thai custom and buy it.

I would like to know about getting a masters too. I was thinking about SUNY Buffalo College. From what I read they specialize in education in south east Asia. They have classes here as well.

Get onto Teach First in the UK then once your qualified come back and work in a prestigious international school.

MA education is 160-300k in Thailand ..

Try Open University, open.ac.uk

Try Open University, open.ac.uk

You might like to contact The Institute of International Studies, Ramkamhaeng University, they offer an English language M.Ed, two years all day Saturday and Sunday (when semesters in session - 2 semesters per year).

Don't know the fees, all lecturers are visiting farang, small classes, 90% of the students are westerners, Burmese, Chinese, Japanese, Taiwanese, some Americans and some South Africans etc.

They have a website for the phone no. etc.

Some people are prepared to pay those figures for a decent MA from a reputable university. Some people actually wish to progress their skills as a teaching professional.

Obviously the above don't apply to you. I'm sure you're quite happy doing whatever it is that you're doing. Good luck in your later life.

Or due to the pay here some people just don't have £11,000 spare!

Have a look at the PGCEi at Nottingham University in the UK.

http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/education/prospective/pgcei/bangkok.aspx

It's a blended course with a week long 'face-to-face' ,with a UK tutor & other members of the cohort, during October. The rest of the course is on-line based. You can then use the credits towards a masters degree (at Nottingham) or alternatively you can do a straight masters which has exit points for the certificate & diploma. The total cost, for the masters, is around £5000 depending on the route taken.
