Dairy Farming To Be Promoted As A Way To Tackle Poverty

The Cooperatives Promotion Department is promoting dairy farming in 31 cooperative communities across the country as a way to tackle poverty.

Department chief Boonmee Chantharawong (บุญมี จันทรวงศ์) said cooperative members can use their land as collateral in obtaining loans under the scheme to convert assets into capitals and many of them have been interested in raising dairy cows because that guarantees them income from milk selling.

Mr. Boonmee said members and their families can also make themselves healthy by drinking milk from their own farms. The dairy farming promotion will be expanded to other areas suffering from poverty, he added.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Firstly this presupposes that the poverty stricken areas have sufficient fodder to

support the cows wiithout vast expediture.

Judging from some of the photos in the media of parched earth in Isaan,

I am doubtful................

Secondly the dairy farming in Thailand seems to be a highly organised and mechanised industry

I wonder if a return to rural methods will be effective.

How will the milk be stored, transported and kept fresh before distribution?

I spent much of my life on a farm--including dairy. It's a difficult life. Dairy cattle are fickle creatures and require a lot of care. Milk is a sensitive product and must be kept at the right temperatures.

It's not that Thailand is incapable of doing any of this, it's just that much of the attitude and diligence necessary isn't a part of the general psyche. This is not a mai pen rai business.

To promote the healthy benefits of drinking milk, they might look to the highly successful "Got Milk?" ad campaign in America.

I'm not really sure why it proved to be such a huge hit... :o

Another land grabbing program, that's all. Nothing new about milk, the idea is rather thick as yogurt.

Well one can never get enough information upon such wonderous subjects. But I want to know of you were involved in creating cooperative farming communities in Thailand?

Where are these Thai Kibbutzim? Will the members of these Thai cooperatives who work with the dairy cattle become pariahs of the community because they always smell of cow s**t?

Yes, it is rather important to wear boots when working around cows. Those flip-flops just don't keep that mushy cow poop out from between your toes!

Never wear boots when working with cows....if you do how will you get that mushy cow poop between your toes?

So what happened to Thaksin's 'One farmer, One cow project' ?

Guess all that cow carp has been swept under the carpet along

with all the unused elite cards.

So high on hype and low on substance. TIT :o
