Hold my hands up I've just realised that I should have went immigration today for an extention. I Will happily pay the fine but what's got me worried is that 6 months ago I had a overstay of a day. It was a disgrace they gave me it as I was I'll in hospital and provided my hospital receipt but still Mr immigration man wanted to put a black Mark in my passport after countless visits and 5+ years of stay in the last 8. I could have dealt with the fine even though injust but to mark me an overstay had me fuming. Anyway im thinking now will they refuse me an extension of 30 days based on this and previous? I did keep the receipt in case I ever needed to argue the case in future but what's got me worried more is I have no ticket out of the country. The plan was to go laos get a tourist visa if I wanted to stay but now I think I want to be back in the UK around 1st March. Even with out proof of ticket will they at least give me 7 days to leave and then I can get a flight booked or go laos. 1 small mistake this time and not bothering to argue the case previously has left me thinking should I avoid jomtein immigration and just do a visa run? I've seen people saying they are demanding 3000 baht for what should be a 1900 baht extension so I may as well go Cambodia and avoid the hassle? I don't feel in a strong position at the moment and have little faith in fairness being applied. Advice please. Thanks

If you need more than 30 days you best option is to go straight to Vientane or Savannakhet Laos, for a tourist visa. Also flying to Penang is good option. If you are on a single day overstay now immigration can have you pay the fine and still issue the extension. Even if you don't have confidence in the system is better than you act now otherwise things will just get worse..
