Hi, overslept and missed my flight, which is a bit of a problem as my stamp ends today. May be able to book another flight for this afternoon, but cannot do it online, and the call center doesn't open for another hour, so as a back up was hoping for some information on extending my non imm O visa.

I don't have a 1 year extension, just 1 year non imm O, 90 days on entry, which is fine as I often travel abroad. I've never had the need to extend it before, but think that I've read here that this is possible for a 30 day extension. Am I correct? A quick search of the site didn't bring anything relevant up. If this is correct, where do I need to go? I'm in Bangkok.

Thanks.

A 90 day entry is not extend-able as a rule but in an emergency type situation it can be for a few days - I would try to make your trip out myself as you need to do that anyhow it seems. Soi Suan Phlu Immigration HQ is the only place in Bangkok to obtain an extension.

I have sort of a related question. I've been on a Non Imm B for the last 3 years, have a WP and all sorts of legitimate qualifications. I also qualify for a Non Imm O based upon the need to support my child who is half Thai.

Can I just go up to Suan Plu, get interviewed, present my qualifications, pay my money and get a non Imm O?

Why do you want an Non Imm 'O' if you have a 'B' already ?

I take it you are presently on an extension of stay (one year stay) for the WP/NIV B but are asking if you could change to NIV O? For child an extension of stay is not likely unless you are supporting under a court order (legal guardian type arrangement).

There is a possibility I will be granted custody of my daughter by my Thai wife who I will divorce.

There will be a legal custody or parenting plan that will be filed at the Amphur as an attachement to the divorce.

I would rather be on an O because I don't want to be tied to my employer.

Thanks for your helpful advice Lopburi.

Unfortunately I was flying to Udon Thani to cross by land to Vientiane. I've just read that the border closes at 17:30, which is before I will be able to arrive now. Am I likely to have much of a problem if I turn up at the border in the morning on one day overstay? Do they charge for that now?

I'm thinking Suan Phlu will probably give me at least a one day extension if I explain my situation, but not really sure if this is worth the hassle for 8 hours overstay.

Alternatively I can fly somewhere else, but this is quite expensive at short notice.

Suan Phlu is about the only choice at this time, but without a ticket out of the country am not sure of what they will say; other than a flight to a foreign country tonight. If you go overstay you are illegal and subject to arrest. Your passport will be stamped as an overstay. Believe you will have to pay the 500 baht also departing from a land border. Not sure why you made the Lao border choice from Bangkok (there is daily border run service for less cost) but they have all departed by now.

If I had a clean passport I would do my best to leave today, even if on a late flight to Singapore, if unable to obtain extension. Although under current policy it is not a major thing unless the local police catch you on the way to the border. It is always much safer departing from Don Muang to a foreign country if on overstay.

I chose the Laos border as I want to visit Vientiane and it seemed a fairly quick way to get there. I wasn't planning on just crossing the border and coming back straight away. Only 2000 Baht return after taxes, so it's not much of a financial loss for me.

Think yours is good advice, so just booked Bangkok Airways flight to Phnom Penh this evening. B6400, which I guess is ok for a same day flight. Neither Airasia or Jetstar permit same day bookings online or by phone. You have to go to the airport and hope they have a seat, which is annoying and a bit of a gamble. Tiger do allow online bookings of same day flights, but I've been to Singapore quite a few times, and fancied somewhere new, which Phnom Penh is, but would have preffered Vientiane, still, can always go next time.

Thanks for your quick response, Lopburi!
