Police find leads on source of fake announcement
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Police have said they are closing in on the initial source of the fake palace announcement, which spread on social media last week.

Police spokesperson Lt-General Prawut Thavornsiri said yesterday police had looked into the Line social media correspondence of Kris Buddeechin, the red-shirt arrested for disseminating the fake announcement, and had managed to trace some important communications.

The "announcement" spread on other social media applications at around 9pm on February 2, while the communication trail on Line started at around 6.40pm, Prawut said.

Police are trying to track the person who first spread the fake announcement on Line in the hope of identifying the person behind it, he said, adding it was likely the culprit was still in Bangkok.

In a related development, the military court knocked back a second bail request by Kris yesterday, citing concerns he may flee the country and the fact a state investigating officer was not present to provide information. It ordered his initial detention for 12 days.

The 12-day period started on Tuesday at Bangkok Remand Prison.

Supawat Thaksin, the red-shirt United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship lawyer assisting Kris, said a third bail request would be posted.

Supawat claimed Kris should be given bail as Niran Yaowapha, the webmaster of the ASTV news-site who posted the fake announcement, was granted bail by the military court this week.

When Kris made his first bail request on Tuesday, investigating officers did not object, the lawyer said.

Uh oh. Watch it now. LINE Japan will now be forced on unencrypt their message system or be banned in Thailand. sad.pngblink.png

Banning LINE or facebook would be massively damaging to them..

Thais may not care about much but take away thier chat or social media account.. Then theres revolution.

If LINE is banned here......there would almost certainly be a civil war......if Facebook was banned....there definately would be civil war.......& 90% of the population would go into severe withdrawal!:))

Wow. This "announcement" was referred to seven times, but I still don't know what the fake announcement was!

It was a fake announcement pretending to be from the royal household, the details of which I would rather avoid but can be found with a bit of googling if your are really interested.

The redshirt culprit and his red shirt lawyer wonder why bail is not allowed?

If the redshirts and their leaders didn't keep running away they might be trusted?

After all its only guilty people who run.

Good grief, do the police not have any real crimes they should be investigating, instead of putting all their effort into this sort of silly crap?

Im am not trying to claim that these particular people are innocent, but to claim that only guilty people run is absurd, frightened innocent people who fear an injustice also run.

Is that why Suthep and his nephew Nomsod are both in the monastery? Isn't that where Thais tend to "run" to when things get a bit on the hot side ?

"Has there been any mention of banning Line?"..................................Only by the three amigos, which means nothing. These guys often pick up bs and run with it, and by the end of the topic it is accepted as fact (by some) biggrin.png

I remember the furore when FB was apparently banned for a little while (turned out to be a server thing)

The outcry was huge. The junta are like children but I doubt even they would be stupid enough to ban facebook. Thais of all colours would protest to the hilt to stop that happening!

Yes when Facebook or Twitter go down for a few minutes it's only Thais who freak out and think the world is ending.

I for one feel that the outrage by spreading fake announcements could cause is a real crime.

What you consider "silly crap" is considered a very serious matter to the citizens of Thailand.

This issue doesn't involve Suthep, it involves red shirts. Read the OP again.

For sure...

Orson Welles' War of the Worlds radio broadcast of 1938 caused mass panic, followed by outrage and calls for regulation by the Federal Communications Commission.

It involves a claim that only red shirts do runners from justice of which that claim is blatantly false as ALL colours run when it suits them!!

The thread doesn't involve who did or did not do a runner.

It involves a red shirt that allegedly forged and promulgated a fake announcement by Royal Household Bureau.

Read the OP again.

No'p not only the guilty run my friend, those that know they are to be (sacrificed) (set up) as the truly guilty walk free, they run as any person with any smarts would do,

and i'd guess you would do the same if it was your head on the(independant" judicial system chopping block, funny thing is most people say the judicial system here is corrupt, brocken, bought and paid for by those that have money, or those that have conections in the right places as wel as just @#$%^&ED up,

but when the targeted person they would like to see gaoled is in the line of sight then they cry out how just this time they got it right, talk about bias, you make me laugh.
