Mailing to UK State Pensions Dept

A discussion took place recently regarding mailing issues to the International Pension Centre. Although the centre is in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, mail is sent via a mail handling centre in Wolverhampton.

In the thread that discussed this issue, there seemed to be some doubt as to whether that centre would accept a registered or EMS letter. Well I can now report to all UK pensioners that they do accept such mailings.

Over the last 4 months I have sent 4 registered letters, 1 from Egypt and 3 from Thailand. All were received and today I received an answer to my latest one. And as final evidence that the system really does work, my pension has also arrived in my new Thailand bank account. clap2.gif

Best wishes to all happy pensioners smile.png

agreed although not the same dept all we need now is to upgrade and simplify the passport application process for ex pats

living many kms from bkk

Just because you've received a reply doesn't necessarily mean the Newcastle centre accepted them.

My understanding is that after they arrive at Newcastle they are rejected and sent on to Wolverhampton where they are scanned. Newcastle then just works with the scanned, electronic copies. Paperless office, and all that nonsense.

In other words, all you're doing by sending to Newcastle is introducing a delay before your paperwork is dealt with.

In the previous thread, (see: UK State Pension claim – unsuccessful delivery) 2 persons reported that the Wolverhampton Mailing Centre would not accept registered mail. A statement which caused some confusion.

I am merely setting the record straight. The do accept registered mail there. What they do with it once they have received it not my concern as long as the system works.

Do they accept it, or is it forwarded to Newcastle who then accept it?

I sent my recent life certificate EMS to the Wolverhampton address and followed it on track & trace where it said it had been accepted!

they put the record straight back in december when they realized[ the dwp].had dropped a <deleted> buy useing a mailing service who wouldnt except registered mail.

Many thanks for the update. I am about to send off my claim pack, but was waiting for a reply from my email to the Pensions Office after expressing my concerns about sending sensitive documents by "normal" post. EMS it will be then. Thanks again. clap2.gif
