BANGKOK, Feb 19 -- Airports of Thailand (AoT) projected air traffic to increase at its six airports during this Chinese New Year and that more than 4.3 million air passengers are traveling.

Acting AoT President Nirandra Theeranartsin said that from Feb 14 to 26 Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai airports should serve 4,318,782 passengers, up by 890,000, and 27,144 flights, rising by 3,068 year-on-year.

Suvarnabhumi airport alone is likely to see 165,783 passengers per day, up by 20 per cent, and 563 additional flights during the Chinese New Year period.

The number of all daily flights to visit the airport should reach 926, going up by 4.3 per cent.

Most flights are direct from China.

The highest number of flight increments comes from China Eastern Airlines.

Don Mueang airport should serve 81,500 passengers per day, rising by 60 per cent, and about 600 flights a day, increasing by 25 per cent.

Mr Nirandra said that AoT was organizing activities to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome visitors.

It has also deployed staff to help passengers through its airports and increase the number of security guards and their patrols at this time. (MCOT online news)

Did they have a poll to come up with this gem of an obvious statement,or just form a committee to debate and subsequently release this info?

Yet another topic dealing with Chinese tourists. Is this the single most important issue in Thailand. TVF seems to be suggesting that.

No. Russian tourists are far more important for the Thai economy.

I guess along the lines of predicting night will follow day and will keep repeating over and over.

The extra flights are booked, the workers at the airports are all ready, Chinese New Year events all laid-on, what did we forget ? whistling.gif

Oh yes, make an announcement, as though any of this is unexpected ! facepalm.gif
