US military spends millions on impotence drugs

Washington (dpa) - The US Army has spent tens of millions of dollars to help soldiers and veterans of the military in the bedroom by covering the cost of erectile dysfunction medications.

The Pentagon’s bill for medicine to treat the problem totalled 84 million dollars last year, a military spokesman confirmed Wednesday.

Half of the total was spent on the drug Viagra, according to data compiled by the Defence Health Agency within the Department of Defense.

Since 2011 the US military has spent 294 million dollars on medication to treat erectile dysfunction, about equal to the cost of four F-35 fighter jets, according to the Military Times.

Erection dysfunction can be triggered by events soldiers experience during deployment, the report said.

Studies show that the number of soldiers who suffer from erectile dysfunction in recent years has gone up.

About 90 per cent of the patients prescribed the drugs were veterans.

A report on the data was published online last week by the Washington Free Beacon, but with far lower figures.

well...

it's not like recreational cocaine.

i bet this is money well spent. i bet the people taking it saw improvement in their lives and furthermore that many (most?) of their partners appreciated it as well.

this is good news.

glad for the VA.

stupid for a news org to make a comparison of any kind besides efficacy, i.e. did it work / did it help improve the lives of the veterans, etc.

I buy my own, even though I served 26 years in the Military, my problems is age on set, 80 and still ticking, but little tricking !!

I am not sure they should pay for these drugs and damn sure do not agree with paying for abortions, maybe Rape, Incest or Mother has fatal condition if pregnancy continues !!

Boy, the stand-up guys will have a field day with this one.

It does remind me of a cartoon I saw in Hustler magazine years ago. A General had this rock-hard erection and was asking an office girl if she would like to "blow the whistle on a high ranking military official."

I can't believe I still remember that one.

What business is it of a government to regulate someones erection?

The guy who was in charge should have his dick chopped off.

Patronizing Idiots!!

Using big words when you don't know the meaning could make you what you called them... last time I used the "id##t" word I was once again suspended, some TV readers are very thin skinned. Any way Patronize :

treat with an apparent kindness which betrays a feeling of superiority.

What makes you think the government "regulates" someone's erection, I would think the guys take the pill voluntarily and "regulate its use themselves.

555 true

I guess the "America <deleted> Yeah" Slogan will have to be changed to....

"Gonna Try With a Little Help From My (blue) Friend"

Hiking over a glacier in the Alps a few years ago, my friend and I joked that our " little blue pill" was the Advil we were taking for the muscle aches!

Your opinion seems to truly show your age more than anything else. It's a good thing this type of opinion is fading away as the older populous dies off.
