BANGKOK: -- Results of national general academic subject tests are now available on the National Institute of Educational Testing Service (NIET)'s website

More than 140,000 students nationwide sat the tests on January 17 and 18, so they can use the scores in applying for seats at their favourite universities via the clearing-house system. The tests cover Thai language, social studies, English, maths, chemistry, biology and physics.

"If students have any questions about scores and wish to see their exam paper, they can submit requests between February 21 and 23," NIETS director Samphan Phanphruk said yesterday.

Students who submit requests would be allowed to see their exam paper on February 28, he said.

Samphan said the average score in all seven subjects this year ranged between 20.35 and 58.66 points. "It is quite similar to that of a year earlier," he said.

Some students got full scores in three of the seven subjects, he said, namely mathematics, physics and chemistry. Others, however, got zero for maths, English and biology, he said.

What was the highest score in "maths?"

I am assuming this was for the O-net test. In which case the results reflected show that nothing has changed. Thailand will be ranked the lowest again.

I thought that in a multiple choice question test it was almost impossible statistically to get a zero and yet ........ WOW!

It probably shows that the test writers actually are the ones who need a swift kick up the arse.. it will be interesting to see the English test questions and answers!

Most years it's just badly written, ridiculous answers or multiple possible answers or both!

And it's also the case were no one school is following a correctly implemented curriculum, just rough guidelines. No two schools using the same reference books etc (maybe municipal schools are but generally not)
