taxis at Don Mueang - not good

Featured Replies

Numerous posts recently about taxis on arrival in BKK. Suvanaphum has been well covered with its new [alleged] system, but DMK last night was as bad as I have ever seen in 20 years. Admittedly at 0030, but there was no shortage of taxis - just no system to shovel punters in and get away quickly. I watched for a couple of minutes and calculated the queue was at least one hour long.

But as some know already, if you can find your way out to the main road, you'll find dozens lined up at the base of the steps over to the railway - in both directions. To my surprise, mine didn't even haggle but turned on the meter like a lamb (I checked the Amari airport but "their" taxi wanted 400 baht to town). And you save the 50 baht airport fee.

BTW, I did try upstairs at departures (along with about a dozen locals.....) but no sign of any arriving taxis, which is not surprising at that time.

Hopefully I won't have to come here much longer, so it may not bother me too much more, but for tourists, a BIG overhaul of the only real means of getting out of that airport is way overdue.

New system at swampy worked very well when I collected family a few weeks back

Was p.45pm and no Q

Collected ticket with assigned taxi, actually a QGirl even pressed the button for us :)

Driver was waiting by his SUV waiting, saw us coming and was very helpful in loading bags

and turned his meter on ... zero issues

Not sure why ... but they should get the same system up an running at Don Muang ASAP
