Nonsense, of course they do. Or at least many of my friends do, and I can't imagine that they are untypical. Though you're right, it's more likely to be with the mia noi (or a new wife) than with a long-married mia luang.

I find the Thais usually know of some island or other that has a nice resort on it, usually from a magazine or newspaper that got a lot of attention

They're usually the kind the average farang stays away from, bit over priced, privately owned, etc

Wealthy Thai friends of mine went to Pattaya, stayed in a nice hotel got a massage and enjoyed some good food and the pool. They paid much more than I would consider paying but Thais generally value their holidays/breaks and are willing to pay as they do not get that much time off
