First Class

Featured Replies

My daughter will be starting nursery school on Monday at a nursery called "First Class" in Sriracha.

Does anyone know anything of this place? Apparently there are only around 20 students with 5 "teachers". My wife tells me that she will be going to school from 8am to 5pm each day. I believe it costs around 5k per month.

The thing is, my daughter is only 2 years and 9 months old, isn't this a bit young to be going for so long each day? What is the norm in Thailand?

Is there anything I should watch out for, be aware of? What should I be looking at at the school to make sure they will be treating my little girl well?

What kinds of things do the kids get up to during the day?

Thanks folks

I think it's kind of the norm.

My kid goes to a kindy and is 3 and a half (there are a lot younger ones there).

They seem to play games, learn Thai and also have a little kip....I personally think it's more for parents than the kids per se (getting them out of their hair). Saying that before I started Infant school in the UK (at around 4 or so) I'd already been to two schools.

Our cook's daughter goes to preschool from 8:30-2:30.

my son is 3 and goes to school 8 till 2.30 every day. They play a bit have a snack, listen to stories, paint, have lunch, nap, more stories and play.

He really likes it and is good for his development.

Yeah I don't think they HAVE to go for a set period of time. The school I take my son to is open from 7.30am until 6pm....I usually leave him there from 9am to 5.30pm which is quite a long day for him.

I've been asked by another member to get information on kindergarten level schools, and will report back to him and Tuky soon.

Well, her first day she didn't sleep and asked where her Mummy is a few times.

But yesterday she slept for 2 hours, ate her food and has started bullying the other kids.

She is the only kid in the class with a Farang father, all the other kids are either Japanese sired or full Thai.

I spoke to her on the phone yesterday after school and she was thrilled and wouldn't stop talking about it.

So it seems ok so far.

I might try and keep a bit of a running commentry on her schooling here. The highs and lows etc.

That sounds great if you're willing, Tuky... we need more parents like you willing to share their experiences here. It will be revealing about both the schools and the teachers involved.

LoL mine gets a little thing in his book everyday with all of the important information in you need to know...like how much milk he drank, how long he slept, how many times he went to wee and if he asked! I kid you not!

Like I said all the important things :o

Well, my little girl seems to love her school.

She looks forward to going each day, she has developed a special bond with one of the teachers and is always talking about her.

She was initially a bit of a bully, but after a couple of days she settled down and gets along well with the other kids now (my daughter that is).

They only speak english to the kids there, which I am pleased about.

We were in The Outback Steakhouse in Siam Discovery on the day after the coup when my daughter spotted a kangaroo, she jumped up from her chair and gathered her arms like kangaroo paws and started bouncing around singing "kangaroo hop hop hop hop".

I was so suprised and laughed until tears ran down my face.

She must have learnt it from one of the games they play at school.

Great...

anyway, that is just a small update without going into how many times she went to the toilet and all that, I leave that info for the wife to file away. :o

I think you'd get a better response in the 'family' sub-forum.

My lttle girl is nearly 4 and goes from 7.30 til 4.30.

She started going when she was 18 months and loves it.

Your lucky you can afford a school like that - I'm the only one who speaks English to our daughter, (and my family, of course). It's a shame when my mother/father/grandmother speak to her on the phone and don't understand what she is saying.

Although I speak Thai, I never do to her.

Here's a question to the teachers - should I be teaching her how to read Thai when she asks me?
