Thai Ridgebacks

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a breeder of Thai Ridgebacks in Bangkok, Chumphon, Surat Thani, or Chon Buri? I know there are plenty of soi dogs...I prefer a Thai Ridgeback from a breeder. I have googled the enquiry. I'm simply asking members of the forum.

Also, I"ve never owned a Thai dog, but have taken care of plenty here. I don't know their personalities if they are raised with constant human interaction and affection. What are they like? I know about individual differences, but there are temperament qualities that define most breeds.

I can explain it for you - but I can't understand it for you 😀

I have had a female Thai Ridgeback Dog for 9 years. The TRD is generally regarded as highly active, alert, and willful. With my dog, there came a time around 5 months when she made a bid for the "alpha" position, and I had to adopt a very strong approach for a few weeks. For example, I walked her exclusively on a short leash, used consistent and clear commands, and kept to a schedule for feeding, playing, walking, etc.

She folded like a cheap suit...meaning she gave in and accepted she was not the top dog.

While she is still active, alert, and willful, she is also the best dog I have owned. She does what she is "designed" for: let's me know when people are near, always checks out visitors, maintains an even attitude, and relaxes when all is quiet.

Good luck with your search.thumbsup.gif

Presumably letting you know when people are near means barking? Otherwise known as annoying your neighbours.

Your comment shows that you haven't learned to appreciate a well trained and intelligent dog.

We have a TRB who is also the most wonderful dog I have ever been around.

Yeah, barking dogs can drive you crazy...and fortunately my TRD is not one of them. She barks, but in a purposeful way...and once I settle her at night she stays quiet. I'm sure all hell would break loose if someone came over the wall, though.

I can give you the names of many thai ridgeback breeders if you Pm me plus have access to facebook.
