Cheap Flat/studio In Bangkok

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'll be in Bangkok at the beginning of December and I'll be needing a cheap, modest accommodation for couple of months.

Where should I look and how cheap can I expect to score (a flat)? :D

Thanks for help,

Mihailo :o

depending where you want to be - but generally the further from the Sukhumwit road, train and the underground stations the cheaper it gets.

there are different prices for thais and for farangs - but a studio flat you can get from 2500 baht per month on Thonburi (the other, cheaper, side of Bangkok) and 10 000 baht for a small 3 bedroom house somewhere off the main roads.

Thanks for the info man :o that's what I was looking for, to know what can I expect...

Tell me, what are thais and farangs?

How much are those?

I just need 1 room with a shower, that's all... :D

farang is a thai fruit as well as the name for white foreigners.

to get the cheapest accommodation you might need some basic thai

Mihailo,

I'm new on this forum, but have spent a lot of time in Thailand. Thailand is a beautiful country with lots of very good people there. But it is a poor country and there are, as in all countries, many people trying to seperate you from your money.

You sound like a nice, friendly guy, that's good and you should make friends fast.

But, please spend some time reading all that you can from this forum, and others, to learn about the region and what, and where, and who, to be careful. There is a immense accumulation of knowledge here.

For a two month rental? No chance.

I concur with that.

Places that would rent 1-2 months to a foreigner on a face value are more expensive and tend to be concentrated on or closer to the Sukhumvit, where the demand is.

Rental contracts are usually 3+ months and places that would rent for shorter than that and not ask too many questions are more likely 8-15K and up. I mean mansions, not hotels.

I haven't seen ANY places at all convenient for a newbie that cheap EXCEPT very expensive <by the OP's standards> places 20k+/mo that would accept even a 3 month lease.

I guess he MIGHT be able to work a deal in KSR area ... but even then I doubt it considering WHEN he is coming!

OK, if you are serious I can forward you a few tel numbers out of the Bangkok Post and do a little search on the net if you want?

What is your budget?

Do you need TV, Air Con, Fridge?

Do you need to be near the BTS (Sky train)?

If you let me know I'll be able to get you a few tel numbers and web sites to look at.

Don't let anyone put you off, I'ts different over here for sure, but if you keep your wits about you, you will not have a problem!

Have fun!

Chris

Ok, man, I have 3 months to read all about it + I'm not a squirrel (as we say in Serbia:) ), meaning that I know very well my way around, I haven't been living in a palace so far :D

But thanks for the good wishes, and if you wanna be more precise, send me an email

[email protected]

ciao :o

Hey Chris,

sure man, give me what you can, there is still time and I think it'll be a lot easier and cheaper to search for a place when I'm there and possibly with couple of local guys/girls :D

I wouldn't go for more than 5, maybe 6.000 baht (it's about 100-120 euros if I got the rate right)

Fridge, sure I need, it's hot, right? The rest ain't necessary

And when I said I just need a (quiet) room with a shower I really meant it.

Simple.

(maybe a Thai girl would be nice :D )

btw what does this mean? 'if you keep your wits about you', I'm not that familiar with British slang :D

maybe if I keep my mind sharp, attentive, be alert, think for Christ sake... :D

Thanks for helping :o

There's quite a few cheap apartment buildings on Sukhumvit Soi 63 (Ekkamai).

They are a motorbiketaxi distance from the BTS.

The problem is that these places don't have websites or email addresses.

You just need to go and wonder around the area and check out the availability by yourself.

reading on your another thread that you are going to travel all around the South East Asia maybe the best option will be for you to find a guest house around Khaosan Rd area - for an en suite room with fan expect to pay some 300 baht per night, so about 9000 baht/month.

For a similar money my brother in law is renting his 3 bedroom detatched house with a small garden - but it's on the other side of the Chao Phraya river, on Taling Chan.

As you have mentioned you are going to work in Bangkok - the best is to look for an accommodation close to your workplace (or for a work close to your accommodation) because commuting can be a nightmare.

YES. That would be best. Like with women - no obligations :o

Bless you, my son :D
