Sending Valubles from the UK to Thailand

Featured Replies

Hey all,

My mother is planning on sending us a parcel which includes various none valuable items (baby clothes, photos etc) but also includes a diamond necklace with a value of around 300 pound, she is going to send it the fastest possible way with TNT at 3 days,

We have had trouble in the past when she sent us over a Christmas hamper and was a bit silly but she declared it contained whisky, aftershave etc, needless to say it never arrived and eventually ended up being returned back after 2 months,

My question is, to not flag up taxes or have the parcel stopped, is she better off stating it is just clothing gift with no value? obviously the risk is no insurance if it gets lost etc but at-least this way it will not get stopped and searched for tax? I have a feeling if she puts jewelery and a value its going to get opend and taxed?

Would she also be best putting a Thai address/name rather than my name and address in english?

Sorry if this has been covered a million times I just wondered what the best way of sending this without it being stopped,

Cheers

Avoid any type of courier is my advice, it WILL usually be stopped, I suggest sending it "signed for" with the Royal Mail. Similar service to recorded delivery.

You shouldnt get any hassle that way.

Do not use any courier service.

When your parcel arrives in Thailand it will be stopped.

Then you will get request for extras, customs duty, customs handling, storage, all b..ls...t.

Suddenly you have a serious bill for nothing but couriers making money from you.
