CDC: Election to take place with 180 days after new charter is in effect

BANGKOK, 6 March 2015 (NNT) – The next general election will have to take place within less than six months after the new charter is put into effect, according to the Constitution Drafting Committee.

CDC spokesman Kamnoon Sidhisamarn said on Thursday that the new Constitution is expected to include 315 articles.

He added that, under the suspending clause of article 308, the general election of members of parliament must take place within 90 days while all senators must be ready to work within 150 days after the related organic law of the new Constitution is in effect.

Once the new charter is officially in use, the CDC will have to submit to the legislature within 60 days the organic law related to the elections of MPs and senators before sending it to the Constitutional Court within 30 days to rule whether it is in contradiction with the charter .Mr. Kamnoon said that.

Based on these conditions, it is clear that the general elections of MPs and senators will have to be organized within 180 days and 240 days, respectively, after the new Constitution is active.

A public referendum on the constitution will just delay elections another 3 months or longer if not accepted and require rewrite. So the Junta will not allow such democratic participation to happen, strictly for the sake of national unity.

It is enough that Gen. Prayut is a democractic soldier and Thais must trust his judgement on the extent that he will allow Thais to exercise their rights and liberties. For while there will be a NCPO-crafted constitution to establish the rule of law after the NCPO gives up occupation of the government, the NCPO will continue to wield power that can overrule the constitution.

So what's the point of a referndum?

[snip snip ] ... the NCPO will continue to wield power that can overrule the constitution.

So what's the point of a referndum?

What's the point of an election? Or a constitution? What's wrong with the current constitution where General Perfect selects all underlings, all the time? Voting is just another word for "sucking up to the Europeans".
