Is there such a thing as a great smart watch?

There are already a slew of smart watches available, but despite the industry’s best efforts, it’s debatable whether there are actually and great ones.

There are dozens of models available today from manufacturers like Pebble, Samsung, LG, Sony, and Huawei, each trying to stand out in a sea of mediocrity.

Has anyone who wears a watch ever been happy with taking it off and charging it every single day?

No. Which rules out 95% out there including the new orange.

Give it 2 years when the tech catches up with ideas and I will change my mind, but until then I know of only 1 great smartwatch.

An e-ink, 5+ day battery, wrist mounted solution for notifications and reducing the need to pull a phone out of your pocket. Named after a small phone with a new version out soon that I believe is better as a smartwatch than anything currently on the market.

Would I like a wrist mounted phone that actually works and doesnt make me look like an idiot. Yes.

Would I like a touchscreen colour watch with a long battery life. Yes.

Would I like wrist mounted apps that were as good and userfriendly as my 5" mobile?

Yes.

Do any of the above exist? No, not yet, but pebble is still damn good and I look forward to the new pebble time!

I quit wearing a watch about 10 years ago.

I can't imagine any use for a mainstream general use smartwatch, the screen is just too small.

Maybe there could be some specialised applications, as there are now for normal watches, such as for pilots, divers, etc.

The most common current use for smartwatches is checking body vitals and recording the data along with physical workout data.

I don't think it will go much beyond that unless they find a way to change the interface, i.e. the manner in which it displays things and how we input data. Maybe a holographic display?
