Mastermind of court attack reportedly in Australia
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- POLICE WILL SEEK the extradition of a man suspected of masterminding the hand-grenade attack on the Criminal Court last week, who is also wanted for allegedly committing lese majeste and failing to report to the junta, Royal Thai Police commander General Somyot Poompanmuang said yesterday.

Suspect Manoon or Anek Chaichana, who is also known by the alias Anek San Francisco, has reportedly been living in Australia since avoiding arrest.

Somyot said police were also looking for another suspect, Wirasak Towangjon, also known by the alias Yai Pattaya, who is also reportedly on the run abroad.

The military yesterday handed over to police four more suspects allegedly behind the hand grenade attack, after the first four suspects were handed over on Friday for their seven-day detention period.

14 suspects being probed

The four men have been identified as Sansern Sri-unruen, Charnwit Jariyanukool, Wichai Yoosuk and Naraphat Luaphol.

There are 14 suspects either in custody or wanted on arrest warrants issued by a military court.

The eight in custody have been charged with terrorism and criminal conspiracy and will be put in military custody again under |martial law when police are |done with their initial interrogation.

Citing details collected during police questioning, Somyot said all eight suspects knew Suphaphorn Mit-arak, or "Dear", who police learned had been discussing the attack with Mahahin Khunthong, the driver of the motorcycle used in the attack, when they discovered their Line conversations on his mobile phone.

The military will hand Dear and three other suspects including another woman, Wassana Butdee, to police on Wednesday, Somyot said.

"The suspects have communicated through various channels, exchanging information and jointly planning the attack, leading to a conclusion that they were all in the same group," he added.

Police are gathering evidence against members of this network, which included both those in command and at an operative level, he said.

Tracking the records of money transaction among the suspects requires police coordinating with the Anti-Money Laundering Office, he said.

How long does it take a Thai to get an Aussie visa or does this mean everything was prepared in advance ?

As for extradition, if they can get the country correct, it's another wait and see situation as just how many fugitives are overseas and all the BIB and DSI ever seem to do is talk.

I was going to write something in the line of "Let's wait until tomorrow and see how the police change their story"

They always jump to conclusions and release press statements without thinking.

Anyway I looked at the Bangkok Post and there is the same story except for one small detail.

The police will seek to extradite the suspect from the US!!

Autalia...Amelica.....all sound same same to me(dia)!

All part of those mythical places that may not actually exist - the lands beyond LoS.

Australia would disbelieve a military junta in most cases.

It would further reject any application on law of which it deems draconian such as being critical of royalty .

The other charge more serious would be closely considered only when proof is very obvious, otherwise rejected.

It's more likely the person in this climate would get refugee status from Military Government that Australia considers unlawful and dishonest and bans from their soil.

To get extradiction fom the US, the lese majeste and failing to report to the junta would have to be dropped as they do not violate American laws. The US has a right to request that condition and the Junta has a right to forget extradiction.

With regard to the conspiracy to engage in terrorism, the Junta will have to show that that charge is not simply a poltically motivated excuse to reign in political opposition. Given all the rhetoric and actions of the Junta showing little tolerance to ANY political opposition and repeated production of ill-prepared evidence (having already shown its manipulation of confessions) to prove a fair and reasonable prima facie case against the accussed, the US may just respond with "we'll get back to you maybe after the next elections."

14 people to arrange the throwing of a hand grenade into a car park, which they managed to <deleted> up.

Do you seriously think these people are capable of bringing down the government ?

It starts with a damaged Honda Civic and escalates into a fullblown revolution!!w00t.gif

Basically it's true every Government in the West would object to any request that involves a military Government accusing someone they dislike .

The lesse majesty law has no currency in those countries ( Either US or Australia ) so it's really unlikely the man requested would be required to even explain himself and could in theory yell it out down the local pub without so much as complaint .

Thailand is not the world

And your laws don't Carry in modern day countries.

Terrorism needs some more proof than a military word that tends to make its our polls too
