Thai farmer hangs self because he has no money to pay creditor's bank

Indeed we see yet again the tragic inheritance from the Great Rice pledging Scam Scheme.

The previous administration indeed do have ''blood upon their hands.''

Sod off.

Take your agenda and shove it.

This is a suicide for whatever reason and nothing to do with the " previous administration".

Your propagandist linkage is both ugly and facile.

The debt the farmer was faced with didn't amount over night, perhaps you might like to dwell on that before telling others to sod off.

A couple of years ago in Australia, the them said Labour Govt banned live beef exports to Indonesia following reports of animal abuse. The govt made a fast knee jerk reaction and all these years later (despite the ban being lifted) farmers are still struggling financially because of that.

Same goes for certain rice farmers, the debts they incurred created sizeable interest payments which couldn't be balanced and their individual situations ballooned out of control.

Please engage your brain in the future before being so offensive. It would appear hard for you but at least try to think, 'outside the box' wink.png

The water may have been the straw that broke the camels back but the cause of the debt was more than likely just as siampolee stated.

The obsessive hatred of Yingluck, Thaksin and political parties that win democratic majorities on this forum is really quite nauseous.

What other "many crops" are you referring to? Rice paddies are designed to flood. Stopping that would need expensive landscaping.

The water is pumped in!

What crops would you plant instead of rice in paddy land then? Come on tell everyone.

You now have the opportunity to revolutionize farming in Thailand.

It was Prayuth who ordered them not to plant additional crops.

Can't grow "additional" crops w/o water! No matter who orders it wai2.gif

Sugar cane and cassava can easily be grown on what was rice paddy. One session with a tractor is generally all that is required.

I grow mostly cassava but also have some paddy and I wish it were true what you say. I would convert the paddy immediately if it was financially viable to do so. Most paddy is rain fed and floods once the rains come. Stopping that flooding is expensive. Sure you can plant anything in the dry but come the rains it will rot.
