Mailing BP meds to USA

Featured Replies

Hello,

Is it legal to order blood pressure medication from a pharmacy in Thailand and have them mail the medication to me in the USA?

I would like to pre-arrange this with my local pharmacy before I leave Thailand.

Your better off taking a large supply with you for your own use. However dont think about trying to get a regular shipment sent over for resale.....big trouble then.

This is for personal use. I have high blood pressure.

thanks. I already checked out that link. They have a phone # listed, but they don't have an email address for submitting questions. The time difference makes it a little difficult for me to call them.

"In most circumstances, it is illegal for individuals to import drugs into the United States for personal use. This is because drugs from other countries that are available for purchase by individuals often have not been approved by FDA for use and sale in the United States. For example, if a drug is approved by Health Canada (FDA’s counterpart in Canada) but has not been approved by FDA, it is an unapproved drug in the United States and, therefore, illegal to import. FDA cannot ensure the safety and effectiveness of drugs that it has not approved."

(by unapproved they mean the specific brand/formulation, not the generic compound).

There are exceptions for drugs that are unavailable in the US, but that is unlikely to apply to BP meds.

HOWEVER, enforcement is another matter, see http://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/features/letter-and-spirit-of-drug-import-laws
