MY TGF has now reached the tax threshold and has to pay tax, but she tells me if she was married to a Thai instead of me she wouldnt pay as much tax, is this right?

mate, maybe she is trying to tell you something.......

In anycase, she is wrong. She can be married to anyone. The Thai tax thresholds are adjusted if someone is married. In essence, you can earn an extra 30K per year before tax kicks in. The partner can be of any nationality. Check though, as employers are usually pretty good at deducting the correct amounts based on indivudual circumstances.

All the info is all here:

The link samran supplied spells it out quite nicely. Tax liability starts at 100,001 Baht/year. Personal deduction is 30,000B, spouse deduction is 30,000B, child deduction 15,000/child.

So if married and no children you would pay no tax unless your income for the year is over 160,001 Baht.
