I need to send some stuff to the Netherlands, I think somewhere in the 1 to 2 cubic meter ballpark. In boxes, small items like books, cds, computergear. The shipping agent I used to get stuff to Thailand quoted me 2450 euro for 2 cubic meters!!! From the Netherlands to Thailand is 995 euros for 2 cubic meters.

Anyway, does anyone know of a reliable company or other ways to get stuff to the Netherlands for a better price than this?

I once sended a full 20ft container from the Netherlands to Thailand for 2200 euros, door to door. Forget the 'shipping agents' is tourist areas they are all crooks.

Did you check the seafreight rates at the post office?

Get one of the big removal companies to give you a free quote. If you are in no great hurry the stuff can be put into a container with other peoples goods and keep the price down.

Also airfreight can be a lot cheaper than using sea.

Can also be cheaper to send the goods thru the UK then onto Holland as the port charges in England tend to be a lot cheaper than elsewhere.

What's a "REMOVAL COMPANY" and how do I find one that ships cheap ?

I'll be doing the same later in the year and I have been recommended to use Santa Fe relocation services. They have an office in Bangkok (Sukhumwit 50) and there is a website.

If you try them, I'd be interested to hear your feedback.

Post office is an option. 3030 baht for 20 kg, surface mail.

That's a bargain! And the advantage of sending by post is a smaller chance of having to pay import duties. When going to the port to receive your stuff you gotta sign documents, pay duties and all the hassle for sure, while by post there is a big chance that the postman just delivers it to your door.

I've sent many 10kg boxes to the Netherlands by mail and only once I had to pay import duties. Don't forget to write 'used personal items' on the green customs declaration and a total value of '5 dollar' something like that.

post office way would not include insurance though would it ? Can you use any box or even a small suitcase, or does it have to be special boxes from the PO?

Use the Post Office and specify you want to send your goods SAL. This means that your goods will travel by air for the international portion of the journey. Maximum weight is 20 kilos per box. Go to the Post Office and ask for a number 6 box, cost about 40 baht IIRC (45 x 55 x 40 cm). Make sure you get all the necessary documents. No liquids or medication allowed.

Use Thai Post's site found at http://www.thailandpost.co.th/rate.php to calculate postage. Change the language to english in the top right hand corner if you don't read thai. 20 kilos is 5260 baht. I have used Thai Post to send stuff home (Oz) by SAL and it takes 2 to3 weeks. Never (yet!) had a problem with Customs.

2 years ago my friends shipped 5-6 m3 to the South of Spain using PTY Packing and Logistics Co., Ltd. in Pattaya
[email protected]

My friends paid THB 20,000 for the shipment which included packing in boxes, customs charges in Thailand, shipping to Spain.

Additional charges in Spain (customs and Spain transport need to be added)............was another Euro 1,000

Beware: Customs in Holland will charge you 21% BTW + other (import)taxes unless you can prove that it are 2nd hand goods to be returned because of re-emigration to Holland after staying at least 6-12 months abroad.

Please contact the Dutch "Belastingdienst"; you may have to prepare this issue before shipping (sending lists and getting permission for re-import without or reduced taxes)

dont use a shipping agent in thailand that is farang owned. they will not be able to deal with customs and leave it to their incompetent thai staff. deal with a thai owned shipping agent

Just got a quote of 15000 Baht for 1 m3, which is very cheap compared to other options I checked.

Does anyone know how to contact the Frickin Belastingdienst via email or something like that. Tried calling them, cost me all my prepaid money to listen to 100x " one moment please"...
