Ms Yingluck cleared of wrongdoings by the EC for her Feb 2 pre-election inspection trips

BANGKOK: -- The Election Commission has cleared former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra of any wrongdoing for making inspection trips to northern and northeastern provinces during the pre-election period before the February 2 election in 2014.

Ms Yingluck was accused by the opposition of abusing per positions as prime minister and defence minister and using state resources to campaign for her Pheu Thai party which are deemed violations of the election law.

The EC ruled that even if the parliament was dissolved, the former prime minister could make field inspection trips to perform her duties. It also said that there were no evidences to prove that she used state resources to campaign for her party.

The EC also dismissed a complaint against her that she misused her political position by going on the television to promote the rice pledging scheme which could be construed as making promise to the electorate.

The EC dismissed a complaint filed against the Democrat by Pheu Thai member Singthong Buachum demanding the party’s dissolution because certain party executives went up the stage of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee to address the protesters.

Of course former-PM Ynigluck wasn't campaigning, when she visited the North-East & North-West just before the election, this was yet-another foreign-trip for her, this time to the Peoples Democratic Republic of Lanna ! rolleyes.gif

I guess it is somewhat difficult to separate. In a way any public appearance can be interpreted as "campaigning."

Geez...

yesterday, a Democrat MP found guilty

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/811515-former-thai-democrat-mp-gets-jail-for-appropriating-state-land/

today, a Shinawatra is cleared of charges.....

yesterday's post is even more apropos today

But all the self-professed experts keep claiming Dems are supposed to be judicially protected.

How will they spin this?

Now, how to spin a Shinawatra being judicially protected?

Ok... now go after her for the rice scheme fiasco......

Find her not guilty of some minor charges and then set her up for the BIG ONE - the way to go to shield themselves from any complaints about unfair justice!!!

Any other charges that she is facing will hopefully receive similar 'not guilty' charges. This is the only way to deflect criticism and negate the 'fairness' argument.

The severe penalty of 10 years (reduced) against the Democrat MP for land encroachment all adds into the mix.

Is the 'System' seeming to be fair and impartially guided by the rule of law so that when the more weighty cases are on they can convict with impunity? Just wondering...

You can't accept that the charges were politically motivated harassment can you?

You just have to continue the bullying behaviour ? The popularly elected and much loved former PM is going to surprise many of TVF's misogynists when she tackles the other charges and shows the spirit and strength of Thai woman. Please show some restraint.

'politically motivated' seems to explain all activities against one side only at times.

The party list candidate who was put on that place by her big brother was just a Thai pretty like we (still) see at the Bangkok Motorshow (those are prettier though, IMHO).

As for tackling, you mean obfuscating, sending her legal team, asking 'justice' and the opportunity to explain when only weeks before she refused to answer questions asked and instead went into party politic promotion?

Luckily lots of Thai women do not depend or even want to depend on their brothers. Lots of Thai women work hard to get somewhere, they do not depend big brothers hand-me-downs.

What a lot of tosh. The "much loved"? An expression used a lot when describing actresses in the UK media. See why you think it appropriate she was a good actress on occasion. Certainly not a real PM. Or do you believe she was making decisions other than what to wear and when to fart?

Nothing to do with her sex. She's simply a puppet for her criminal brother and does as he instructs, always, without any consideration or notion of right and wrong.

Let's see her defense. Hope it's more than the usual bumbling's about how honest and nice she is and how it's all so unfair. Perhaps some real information and answers this time? Will she start as usual by insulting the integrity of the court and stating she only accepts verdicts she likes do you think?

Restraint - why? What has she done to deserve it?

Could also be her trips to the North were a free ride home. No trips to the south... she did not want to be ambushed by the "So Loving" residents for not doing anything to pacify the ongoing war between southern factions

"politically motivated harassment" or just normal adversarial-politics, you have your opinion, and I have a different one. I can live with that. Whatever, she was found not to have a case to answer, by the EC.

I will indeed be slightly surprised (and pleased), if and when the former-PM actually shows-up to defend herself against the other charges, rather than relying totally on her legal-team and frequent appeals for emotional sympathy, following crocodile-tears by smirking. That simply doesn't cut it !

You may find it hard to accept, but your "popularly elected and much loved former PM" spent too much of her time on foreign-trips, while neglecting her more important responsibilities back home. If she couldn't spare the time, to chair (or even attend) meetings of the rice-committee, then she ought to have delegated it to someone else. But instead she kept maintaining that only she was in-charge, and that's now coming home to roost, or not as in this case.

She should also have spoken out against the P.D.R.Lanna nonsense, when her so-called supporters spouted it, her job as PM was to defend the existing system.

She may yet pay a further price for this, beyond her impeachment & 5-year-ban, if (and not when) her accusers can prove their allegations in court.

To hold this opinion, and to jest about it as I do, doesn't mean that I am bullying her or being misogynistic. And my restraint is shown by my not assuming, as some others sometimes do, that she's guilty of corruption rather than negligence or inexperience.

Witch hunt part one over, it makes no difference how crooked or honest Thai MP's are the next lot in always want to discredit the past government its like living in the UK and it never helps the opposition party to gain credibility by slating the last government this is usually used as a distraction to the present government's cockups

guilty, but she still has sex appeal

guilty, but she still has sex appeal

For those that find that pudgy, middle-age, matron look sexy.
