City governor assures city officials have been hard working to ease flooding

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra asked for public understanding that the city administration had not sit idly and did nothing to ease flooding in Bangkok following a heavy downpour Tuesday afternoon.

Writing in his Facebook page, he said he had ordered officials of the drainage office to speed up pumping water out of flooded roads as quick as possible.

The unseasonable rain resulting from high pressure from China caused widespread flooding and traffic gridlock in the city. This will cause more rains until March 27-28, said the governor.

Mr Kangwan Deesuwan, director of BMA’s drainage office, some water pumps are on repairs today as have been the normal practice during the hot season when rains are usually scarce.

However, he assured that all the water pumps would be in place within May before the start of the rainy season.

As one of the millions of commuters who got stuck in traffic yesterday, I hope that the BKK Governor will quickly change his priorities to avoid being perceived as a limp poser who prefers to tinker with frivolous publicity stunts like helmetless bike rentals, which will wither away within a couple of years due to lack of maintenance.

Mind you, situation was not helped by road closures for some dignitory heading in the direction of Don Muang airport at 7 pm.

Useless bunch.

High pressure from China. Indeed.

I bet they been working hard on excuses to use when the flooding starts and people who to blame. when all along they could have been digging trenches and laying proper sized pipes to aid in controlling the problem. If canals were dug to aid in diverting water and ponds to handle this yearly event then there wouldn't be an issue. But that isn't the Thaiway .

Its called Politicspeak or as the Indians say "Heap big smoke but no fire" The pumps should be taken out on a rotating basis not down for annual maintainence. Get standby pumps. Mark their failures down on a piece of paper if you have a short memory and review it at election time. Sadly there is so little to choose from and power always seem to corrupt the best of them.
