Time Problem

astral

Recommended Posts

I want to set the time on my PC to the new country where I live.

Either in the cotrol panel or on the bottom right corner I can select the clock and set the new time.

All is well.

The problem is that when I shut down and restart the machine the time goes back to the old setting.

Any ideas?

I am still on Windows 2000 and this is a recent problem.

You need to be sure the Date & Time are set correctly in the BIOS (most PCs this means hitting the DEL key as the computer starts up) because the OS uses this to initialize it's time. There is an option in XP (maybe in 2000 also) to get the time from an Internet time server. Double click on the date/time icon and see if there is a choice of Internet time.

Also make sure your time zone is set to Bangkok (GMT+7)

Thanks it was not the BIOS.

I think the time is net related.

I had changed the time, not the Time Zone.

As soon as I did all was well

If not connected to the network it will be BIOS related. However if the "Automatic synchronize with time server" is enabled the OS will then get the time from the Internet and it will be GMT+0. This is why the Time Zone needs to be set to compensate the time.

I use TClock which shows me the day and date as well. A neat little programme.

It also has a synchronisation feature.

This must have been why I was always getting the wrong time.

Strange that I have never tripped over it before.

Ah well. Now I know.
