Russian PM arrives today on official visit

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- RUSSIAN Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is to arrive in Bangkok today to cement ties with Thailand in various domains including politics, economy, security, energy, science and technology, education, tourism and culture.

Foreign Minister Tanasak Patimapragorn said seven agreements would be signed for energy cooperation and cultural exchanges with Russia. In the meantime, Thai and Russian private companies will sign four memoranda of understanding, which will pave the way for cooperation in business and to increase the level of Russian-Thai trade and investment in the future.

This is an official visit after a formal invitation by Prime Minis-ter Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Medvedev's plane is to arrive at Don Mueang International Airport this evening.

Prayut and his Russian counterpart will meet tomorrow at 10am at Government House to discuss issues of common interest.

They include increasing the value of trade between the two countries, the expansion of markets for agricultural products, food, fish, and industrial products, and encouraging more bilateral business activities.

The discussion will also look at reducing investment and |trade barriers and improving economic ties between the two countries.

The officials are also expected to discuss cooperation in the high-technology sphere, including aircraft manufacturing, the automotive industry, nuclear engineering, mining, fertiliser production, and equipment for the oil and gas industry.

It will be interesting to see an Russian auto plant here. maybe the Russian's can do a deal with a japanese company, rumoured to be leaving, for their not so old factory!

And there are some very edgy designs nowadays.....since they discovered other shapes besides boxes!

Happy little club, Russia, China, Nth Korea and Thailand.

Lots to learn there. The innovative efficiency of the Russians. The quality control of the Chinese. And the charming sales personality of the North Koreans.

This little club already includes Russia, China, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea, Mongolia, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cuba, Nicaragua, Colombia, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Cyprus, Bangladesh, Angola, Mozambique, Madagascar, Zaire, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Greece, Slovenia, Serbia, Slovakia, Armenia, etc.

That is about 60% of the world's population.

First China and now Russia. This country is going 180 degrees in the wrong direction. So now Russia and China will be dividing up Thailand someday. I wonder who will come out on top...China me thinks.

I don't know who will come out on top. One thing I am certain of, for the majority of Thais, they will be at the bottom.

Will he be bringing an autographed copy of big Vlad's new bestseller ' The Kremlin Guide on how to REALLY control a country ' ?

Not sure it's needed here.

Wonder what message this SHADOW of V.Putin (putrid) is to give any messages to Thailand it will be---Siberia for Thai Gays--Ladyboys--non conformists---non corrupt----anti west attitude----object to everything (veto)----allow the Russians in to take over all travel shops and condo's and only have Russian girls as go go dancers in clubs (walking street)..........how about banning flights to here involving some dodgy Russian charter----- This is NOT an anti Russian people post it is an anti Russian human rights etc.

Don't forget Germany, France, The UK, India and Japan. All been getting closer to Thailand for business, education and cultural exchanges since the corrupt previous regime was removed. AmCham also remains very active, as usual.

Funny thing that, governments whose actions are different to their words.

Perhaps Abbot will ban those countries' governments from Australia too, for fraternizing with a Junta - when he's not to busy sucking up to US, China or Prince Harry smile.png

Would be a real lark if Russia and China decided to support Thailand in their quest to become a non permanent member of the UN security council someday. That would really piss the US off, probably the UK and maybe the French, although they'll be a tad unpredictable as usual.

And give Russia and China a grateful growing "friend" in the area. So not such a lark after all.

Just when the rest of the 'moral' world are shunning Russia and trying to apply sanctions, following their 'interferences' in Crimea & Ukraine, Thailand is cozying -up to them!!!!! Just to show they're another democratic, stable country who sympathizes with Russia's plight!!!!???

Note that Putin scores around 85% support in polls done in Russia. Including polls done for western intelligence.

How are Obama, Cameron, Tony Abbott doing?

Hollande has one of the lowest approval ratings for any French PM, ever.

Note also the enthusiasm for the Chinese initiative AIIP.

Just about every country except the USA seem to think it is a good idea to have an alternative to the dreaded IMF and World Bank.

Meanwhile the Yuan chugging along to becoming a reserve currency.

The world is changing, whether some people like it or not.

You see how less Russia respect Thailand. They send the most unimportant person of the country ... But yes for Thai media it's important that at least some one is coming.

Usually you need strings to control a puppet but with computers and the internet I guess it could be done electronically. Vlad must be busy doing a photo op skiing, swimming in a hole cut out of the ice or wrestling a Russian bear no doubt. He can do no wrong the people love him. He should write a book called "How To Love Your Local Dictator"

An arbitrary list, I'd say. Slovenia? Slovakia?

And if you take out China (which has its own interests - very distinct from Russian) - your % drops dramatically.

I'd guess Hitler in 1939 had comparable objective support too.

Medvedev is the next guy after Putin, hardly unimportant and definitely not most unimportant. But I suppose by comparison maybe wields less power in Russia than Prayuth in Thailand who is president, prime minister, head of the army, police, government and everything else, even those institutions not yet set up, courtesy of article 44...

Medvedev is not the next guy after Putin. He is probably one of Putin's weakest political opponents and thus, the perfect foil to Putins power. Some Russians liken Medvedev as "Robin" to Putin's "Batman." He owes his Presidency entirely to Putin who uses Medvedev as a convenient scapegoat for as Russia’s economy slows and authorities are forced to introduce belt-tightening measures.
