TAT expects Songkran foreign tourist arrivals to rise 30%

BANGKOK, 8 April 2015 (NNT) – The lifting of martial law is expected to result in more foreign tourists visiting Thailand during the Songkran festival, whereas Japan and South Korea's banning of Thai chartered flights should not affect foreign tourist arrivals into the kingdom, said Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) acting governor Chuthaporn Roengronasa.

According to Ms. Chuthaporn, the TAT expects no less than 300 chartered flights to enter Thailand between April 11-19. This influx of visitors would push the number of foreign tourist arrivals during the Songkran period to roughly 500,000. About 14.5 billion baht of revenue is expected to be generated as a result.

The projected number of foreign tourist arrivals during this Songkran exceeds last year's figure by 30%. According to the TAT acting governor, the expected rise of foreign tourist numbers may be attributed to the lifting of martial law and a more stable political climate.

Commenting on Japan and South Korea's banning of Thai chartered flights, the TAT chief said the ban's effect will be more apparent on outbound flights from Thailand to the two countries whereas tourists from Japan and South Korea will still be able to enter Thailand via routine flights, and chartered flights originating from the two countries.

TAT is always trying to put a positive note about a miserable tourist season. It's getting harder and harder to find one.

So now I that they struck a deal with s. Korea to allow charter flights until songkran ends TAT has used this to make outstanding projections to get everyone hoping to make a fortune from tourism. Once again TAT speaks out with numbers that don't mean a thing.

And how about compared to 2 years ago, when Thailand was still a democracy?
What is the use of lifting the martial law when it's replaced by a law that is even worse (44)?

Half a million tourists flying in to celebrate Songkran festival

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) says the upcoming Songkran festival will see over half a million tourists visiting the country to enjoy the festival.

TAT acting governor Chuthaporn Roengronasa said she expected more than 300 charter flights with fly into Thailand between April 11-19.

The flights with visitors would push the number of foreign tourist arrivals during the Songkran period to roughly 500,000, she said.

She also expected about 14.5 billion baht of revenue would be generated from these tourists.

The acting governor also said the projected number of foreign tourist arrivals during this Songkran exceeds last year’s figure by 30%.

She also said the rise of foreign tourist numbers may be attributed to the lifting of martial law and stable political situation.

She voiced confidence that charter flight by Japan and South Korea would not affect inbound tourists from these countries as they still be able to enter Thailand via regular flights, and charter flights originating from the two countries.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) spokesperson Mr Chanvit Phalajivin revealed after yesterday’s cabinet’s meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha that of 23% tourism growth in the first quarter of this year.

He said during the first quarter of 2015, from January to March, a number of 7.8 million tourists arrived in Thailand, with Chinese, Malaysian, South Korean, Russian, and Japanese being the top five foreign tourists, representing a 23% growth.

He said 337,490 tourists arrived during April 1-4 this year, while 500,000 more tourists will be visiting during the Songkran holidays.

But he said two million tourists from Thailand are expected to travel during the holidays and throughout April.

The ministry has launched campaigns to promote safe travel and the Thai way of playing water during the Songkran festival by refraining from high-pressure water guns, talcum powder, and unclean water while participating in Songkran activities, he said.

if there has been another group of civil servents other than (TAT) who have done such a remarkable job of reinforcing the old addage ''its better to remain silent and thought to be a fool than to speak and remove all doubt;'' i would like to hear about/from them.

If ever the need for direction from leadership was needed, this is a good example of the need for a stand down and do not utter a word, order

.....How do you expect to get any money out of tourist during Songkarn when you cut off the alcohol and beer drinking? In Chiang Mai, do you think they came for Umbrellas, and cheap bamboo trinkets? The government has already jacked the price of beer up .50 Stang a bottle in taxes.

They came for fun shooting squirt guns, and drinking beer in the hot sum, maybe some at a foot massage or maybe some more intense private massage, with the the best Masseurs in the business. Last week it was estimated at 20%, and now new figures are up to 30%. When will this country get out of this third world revenue soaking tourism , and do some serious planing for industry? Look at all the major countries of the world that are industrialized. Tourism is the last item on their list. If you want to remain a third world, continue on course, attracting EU, American, British, Aussie, New Zealand, German, Russian scumbags, thinking of only loose Thai girls, and a cheap drunken state of a false paradise with a phony girl of their dreams, ripping them off to a point of despair and ultimate suicidal commitment...... this is madness!

and how many residents of Thailand will be desperately escaping Thailand for the duration of the "festival"?

and how much money will they be spending overseas?

Perhaps the chartered flights originating overseas are using bigger a/c & special seating, being on average shorter persons, then 2 tier seating could be a possibility that TAT are arranging along with filling the cargo bays.

SORRY, now you have to do maths with a few more variables.

This is an agency with very high expectations. Almost as high as the agencies that promote the great N. Korean ruler's regime, and the ones that promote "American style democracy". Are they based on any facts, in either of these cases? Probably not. Are they practical or sensible? No? Are they scientific? Definitely not. Are they wishful? Yes.
