DPM Visanu wonders why influential figures are more afraid of the military

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Visanu Kruea-ngarm said today that it was rather strange that influential figures in this country were more afraid of the military than with the police.

He cited several past incidents when troops were sent in to resolve problems such as land encroachment and turf conflict among motorcycle taxi-drivers and there was no resistance from the influential figures of Mafia-type elements.

“Probably the police have become too close with (influential figures) so they feel krengjai with one another or become mutually dependent,” he said.

The deputy prime minister spoke in defence of the issuance of a new order by the National Council for Peace and Order to authorize military officers to perform the task of law enforcement officers in protecting public interests.

He defended that the assignment of troops to work hands in hands with civilian law enforcement officers would discourage the latter from abusing their authority or ignoring their duties.

In the meantime, he said that civilian officers would also keep check on the military officers too.

I'll tell you JOC, if I or you were corrupt influential figures in Thailand, playing baddies with the police and paying them a lot of money, we would have both sh$t our pants by now, knowing what is coming to us from the army.

As about the rest ""invited" to army camps" is all BS.......as usual..................

Very strange indeed!!

Of course nothing to do with the fact, that you can be "invited" to army camps and if everything else fails, you can be charged with LM and tried behind closed doors!!

Do you and some of the other anti PM brigade choose from ready written lines.??? in half an hour I have read this same text 3 times.

A ridiculous OTT post, cannot you come up with some constructive criticism, like some of the things I am disturbed by, The chief police topic ---for instance. This CAMP--LM is a joke. Only persons who are out with only one motive to aggravate --any situation are the ones to be worried, and influential persons who are guilty of corrupt practices so are more than likely to be found out now. This is an answer that is more to the point NOT your daily DIG in the ribs at the PM.

Why can't they come out and say what they actually mean...to prevent corruption via bribery to look the other way.

On the other hand, the zillionaire robber barons have nothing to fear from the military. They will continue and expand their monopolistic rip off of the entire country for the enrichment of their families ( and without much scrutiny from regulators in the interests of shareholders).

JOC, you are probably not aware of what the police is capable of i this country.

Use the following link about police brutality in Kalasin to demonstrate what can happen behind close doors. It might give you a more balanced view an reference point. Both army and police are known for their violence.

Sadly both the army and the police are equally rotten.

But my point is, that Mr Visanu finds it strange that people are more afraid of the army than the police.

Which to me indicates that Mr Visanu in his naivety believes that the army are the good, non corrupt and

transparent organisation!!

Well as we all know...................coffee1.gif

Possibly because many of the corrupt influential figures have strong links to the army, the Senate and holders of political positions. A mother, a father , a brother, a cousin.

One word and the poor policeman is sent to an inactive post or lost his rank or even his job.

So often a pm in Thailand has a high level policeman family member. Several family members in the Senate. Several family members in position of permanent secretary and or minister. A couple of judge family members.

And then there are all the families allocated to run the family business that the politians are not allowed to run while in office. But continue to pull the strings behind the scene.

So in Germany, England, France.

How many politicians families own schools (several). Hospitals. Hotels and resorts.

Telephone companies. Temples?

Hyperthetical example.

So if you are permanent secretary of health and your family owns a hospital. You will set policy to benefit your private hospital business. Even though you are not involved with that business while in office.

My point is only the top official of an opposing party is able to bring down a top official of the other party.

Taksin did it years ago when he fought corruption . Now Prayut is doing it back. They keep each other in check and that is good.

What will happen if they join forces? ??

Of course it is nothing to do with the RTP being the best police force you can buy either. The correct size of brown envelope and a little name dropping to the police used to let you get away with anything, including murder.
