Khon Kaen: – More than 50,000 people joined Songkran celebrations at Khao Niew Road, breaking the 13-year record for water-splashing festivities in the northeastern province.

Organizers set up 12 stages for live concerts and performances.

Local residents and foreign visitors filled the one-kilometer road from 7.00 pm 10.00 pm.

In Buri Ram, organizers turned racing track I-Mobile Stadium into one of the popular entertainment venues of Songkran revelers.

A highlight for Buri Ram Songkran was a special zone for foam party. Some 100,000 visitors have been projected to join the two-day festivities at the stadium.

In Nakhon Ratchasima, the water splashing zone was set up near Thao Suranari monument.

Organizers installed six-meter water gun to spray water on revelers. There was a large wading pool for children under nine.

Revelers were seen filling water bottle with alcohol-laced drinks in order to avoid the drinking ban at Songkran venue.

In Udon Thani, organisers encouraged revelers to put on Thai dress and/or flower shirts.

In Chiang Mai, residents flocked to pour water for Phra Buddha Sihing, a most revered statue in the province, at the start of Songkran festivities.

Key drenching areas located around the city moat.

Some 300,000 revelers have been projected to take part in Chiang Mai water splashing during the five-day break. Some 70,000 Chinese visitors are expected to arrive and join the festivities.

In Trat, thousands of Thais and Cambodians crossed the border at Hat Lek to take part in the festivities organized on the both sides of the border.

In Pattaya, police reported the surge of visitors for Songkran, causing traffic jam for motorists from Bangkok.

The official Songkran celebrations for the seaside resort town will commence on April 19 but the festivities have already started by the arrivals of Bangkok revelers.

Despite the ban on alcohol drinks at Songkran venues, the authorities found a large number of drinking violations. Drunk revelers would be detained until sober and had to pay a fine before being released.

"Organizers installed six-meter water gun to spray water on revelers."

Is that 100 years in jail and a 20m Baht fine? rolleyes.gif

Yes but there would be a reduction for giving information useful to the court and the balance suspended until after the next election ie, possibly indefinitely.

There is a party...there is a fiesta, there is the carnival, there is the runnig of the bulls and you cant drink alcohol??...What is next?

Why do you think it's necessary to use alcohol to have a good time?

Guess what, you can't use yabba, cochain, heroin or meths either.

Boozers often turn nasty and/or more likely to be involved in accidents to themselves and others.
