Three Songkran revelers drown in Hua Hin sea

Recommended Posts

Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan:- Two Thai men and a Thai woman celebrating Sonkgran in Hua Hin drowned Monday, police said.

Police said the three drowned while swimming at the Suanson Pradipat Beach in the compound of the Army Rehabilitation and Recreation Center in Hua Hin district.

The three were later identified as Krissada Iamkijjakarn, 38, Chonlamart Thirachaisunan, 23 and Natthapat Wuthaphanit, 23.

Pol Lt Payungsak Jongdee, an officer on duty of Hua Hin police station, said he was alerted of the incident at 2:30 pm.

Rescuers and troops used boats and jetskis to search for the three after they were seen disappearing in the sea. A woman and a man were later found underwater.

Rescuers gave them resuscitation before the man was rushed to the Bangkok Hua Hin Hospital and the woman to Hua Hin Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The body of the other men was spotted on the beach about two kilometers south of the Suanson Pradipat Beach at 5:20 pm. Rescuers sent the body the Hua Hin Hospital for postmortem checking.

Payungsak said the three came with four others to visit Hua Hin on Sunday and stayed at a hotel near the Hua Hin Hospital. They were scheduled to return to Bangkok on Tuesday.

Four of them swam at the beach when the accident happened. Payungsak said one of the three might develop a cramp and the two others might try to help and they drowned together.

Meanwhile at the Had Sai Noi Beach also in Hua Hin, officials could help two tourists in time before they drowned Monday.

Following the two accidents, police and the authorities stepped up monitoring beaches in Prachuap Khiri Khan to prevent more drowning.

The drove the woman to HH Hospital ? Passing 2 hospitals on the way (Bangkok and San Paolo), heavy traffic would have made the trip an hour longer.

Doesn't make sense!!

most likely fully clothed.

rip

Ok...if it was a cramp, and everyone panicked..I understand the result. If it was just being in deep water, and being tired...there is something you could do.

Best thing I learned was how to relax your body, lay on your back (tilt head backwards. Only exhale half the air in your lungs at any time. (Not good in rough seas...but in calm salt water you just kind of float).

It is a good technique to rest for a while, if your are exhausted. We call it drownproofing. If you practice this in a swimming pool a few times, then you will have great success in salt water.

First thing I taught the kids.

Very sad that 3 people drown in water waist deep.....and not a surf beach.

It happens in Indonesia often enough. All dressed up (no ankles showing please), walking along the beach in a bit of water, one larger than usual wave and those jeans don't help.

Plus the fact that almost no-one can swim.

How do get to that conclusion? Coming from the army base, hua hin hospital is the closest hospital by far and the very first that they would have come to. Going to Bangkok, or even São Paulo hospital would have meant that they would have to go another 7km down the petchkasem road. Better to get facts right before complaining about the services given I would say!

RIP to three people.
