username1 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 I'm having a hard time finding this information from the Internet, but is it necessary to have the baby registered in 'Book House' somewhere? I have heard different opinions among my Thai friends and can't find any information if it's so or why it would be necessary.
Mario2008 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 You must register the birth within 15 days at the amphur where it was born and should register the child on a tabien baan. An actual requirement I am not sure but If the baby is Thai, it is at least highly advisable. Without it the child will not have a formal address. You will not get a passport for the child for instance without it, and also other things such as health care will often require a house hold registration. 1

I'd guess that you can't use rental properties for this purpose - you have to own the apartment/house?

You can use any house book if the owner of the house agrees (they have to go to the office with you to do it). When I rented a house I paid my landlady 1,000bht to put baby on her house book, and 200bht whenever I needed to borrow the book for something. But you can get almost any house owner to agree in exchange for a bit of cash. (Little old Thai ladies seem to want cash more than most) Edited April 16, 2015 by MaeJoMTB

We never did, just the address when the little one was born was enough. Which hospital will you be going to?
Mario2008 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 You must get approval of the owner of the property you live. Some will not have a problem, others will. Many Thais are registered at the property of a family member, while actually living somewhere else. Because of that, you might need to register somewhere else if you move. Sometimes the owner will allow you to stay registered as the place and in case of being registered at a family member you normally stay registered there, unless you buy your own property. 1
Bangkokhatter Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 @ Deserted, going to Sinarkarin Hospital. Get on fine with the owner, so will just ask her. Maybe I should register myself also, never seen any advantage in it before over having a work permit.
Deserted Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Yeah, that's a pretty good hospital. I don't really know about the registering stuff, just left it to my wife to sort all that out.
