Bangkok Ecotourism

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a Thai student from Webster University doing research on ecotravel. I had been living in Bangkok, Thailand for most of my life, and I believe that there are many hidden gems for ecotourism in the great city that are often understated. This and this, are great examples that are right in the middle of Bangkok. If you got a few minutes for a survey, I'd appreciate it. But if you don't, here's a few questions:

The outskirts of Bangkok has several unique ecotourism attractions, such as crocodile farms, floating markets, nature biking routes, traditional puppet shows and mangrove forest boat cruises. Would you be interested in any of these?

Would you be willing to book a homestay far outside the city center to be closer to these attractions?

Finally, would the lack of public transport and having to rely on car rental/taxi cab be a problem?

Thanks!

Are you sure you know what ecotravel is? I don't see how a crocodile farm, puppet show or a floating market comes into eh category. Most of the floating markets I have been to have zero eco awarness when it comes to garbage.

First, you need to do some research on what is ecotourism. Here's a good start:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecotourism

Ecotourism is a form of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a low-impact and often small scale alternative to standard commercial (mass) tourism. Its purpose may be to educate the traveler, to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights.

Thailand seems more interested in increased numbers of tourists as opposed to protecting the environment. With that being said, survey's are against forum rules:
